About the role
This position is a Proficient or Advanced Practitioner role, having met Proficient or Advanced Practitioner level capabilities. Ongoing professional development and supervision is provided.
Our Behaviour Support program uses individualised strategies for people with a disability, reducing the potential for behaviour that puts a person and those around them at risk. As a member of our Behaviour Support Team, you will work alongside people with disability and their supports, to develop a Behaviour Support Plan, which includes evidenced-based strategies, skill development, and training for the person and their support network.
Tasks

Develop, implement, monitor, and review, interim and comprehensive behaviour support plans.
- Provide formal and informal supervision, secondary consultation, and support, to other practitioners.
- Assist in the recruitment, onboarding, induction, and ongoing support of Behaviour Support Practitioners.
- Play an active role in promoting and marketing the services provided by Support Studio, to help grow our Behaviour Support teams.
- Engage with key stakeholders, through attendance at network meetings and services visits.
- Provide debriefing, training, and reflective practice to other members of the team.
- Contribute to high quality Behaviour Support services by regularly reviewing and supervising the work of other practitioners, including the development of Behaviour Support Plans.
- Support the intake and allocation of new Behaviour Support referrals.
- Develop goals, practical strategies, and interventions that are evidenced-based and person-centred.
- Complete Functional Behaviour Assessments to understand the underlying causes/functions of behaviours with the potential to cause harm.
- Lodge Behaviour Support Plans with the appropriate legislative body (i.e. NDIS Quality and Safeguard Commission and State Based systems).
- Improve the quality of life and minimise risk/complexities for individuals who present with behaviours with the potential to cause harm.
- Work towards eliminating restrictive practices.
- Provide training and support to individuals and their support network, regarding behaviours with the potential to cause harm.
- Safeguard the dignity and quality of life of people with disability who require behaviour support.
- Work collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team.
- Receive supervision (individual, peer, and group), and individualised professional development planning, in line with the Behaviour Support Capability Framework.
Key Selection Criteria
Essential:
-
A degree in Behaviour Support, Psychology, Social Work, Allied Health or other relevant Tertiary Qualification.
- Current suitability - confirmed by the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission – and endorsement at the Proficient or Advanced Practitioner level.
- Driver’s license, National Police Check, Working with Children’s Check and NDIS Worker Screening Check.
- Rights to work in Australia.
Desirable:

Extensive knowledge of behaviour support principles, including functional behaviour assessments, behaviour support plans, and restrictive practices.
- Experience providing supervision, secondary consultation, and support, to other practitioners.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, with a high degree of ability to form relationships with key stakeholders - team members, other professionals, participants, and their families.
- Excellent time management and organisational skills to manage a varied caseload.
- A comprehensive understanding of trauma-informed practice principles.
- A thorough understanding of the National Disability Insurance Scheme - including knowledge of policy and legislation related to behaviour support and restrictive practices.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including report writing experience.
- A passion for supporting participants to achieve their goals and improve their quality of life.
- Substantial experience working with individuals, families, and children with disabilities.
