About the Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Senior Technical Officer to provide technical expertise across complex defence engineering projects, supporting upgrades to submarine systems. In this role, you will develop technical solutions that must be safe, practical, and fit for in-service implementation, working closely with multidisciplinary teams across design, engineering, production and sustainment. Working to solve design issues to improve the capability and reliability of Australia’s most critical naval assets.
Working within a multidisciplinary engineering team, you will apply your technical knowledge to support system, integration and detail design activities, contribute to engineering outcomes, and collaborate with a broad range of stakeholders to deliver quality results on schedule and within budget.
This is a full-time opportunity based at our Osborne site in SA.
Responsibilities
- Deliver the design, analysis, and approval of systems, subsystems, and components while delivering multi-disciplinary tasks or single-discipline projects to a high standard. Prepare technical reports, documentation and supporting engineering artefacts.
- Coordinate and liaise with internal stakeholders, project teams, production groups and customers.
- Apply technical knowledge to develop and implement engineering solutions within approved delegations.
- Apply systems engineering principles across the full lifecycle of critical integration projects.
- Manage personal workload and deliver assigned tasks within agreed schedules and budgets.
- Provide technical leadership and guidance to small teams where required.
- Support risk, opportunity, safety and configuration management activities.
- Ensure compliance with organisational engineering, quality, safety and security requirements.
About you
- Advanced Diploma or Associate Degree in Engineering (or equivalent relevant experience).
- Experience in maritime, submarine, defence or other safety-critical environments highly regarded. Candidates from civil, infrastructure or power grid industries are encouraged to apply
- Experience with the design and maintenance of storage batteries, power conversion, electrical distribution switchboards & control panels, cabling & connectors, lighting, motors, generators, sensors, control systems, industrial networks, PLCs, VSDs, EMC/EMI, fire detection and/or gas detection.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and lead small teams.
- Experience preparing technical reports and communicating technical information to diverse stakeholders.
- Understanding of project management principles, including scope, schedule, cost, risk and opportunity management.
- Knowledge of sustainment or engineering lifecycles, including requirements, verification, safety, integrated logistics support and configuration management.
- Experience working with or holding engineering delegations to facilitate approvals.
- Eligibility for Chartered Engineering Technician (CEngT) or Chartered Engineering Associate (CEngA) status (desirable)
- You are a proactive and solutions-focused engineering professional who can work independently, manage competing priorities and build strong working relationships. You have excellent communication skills, strong technical judgement and a commitment to safety, quality and continuous improvement.
Eligibility
This role requires a current National Police Clearance and an Australian Defence Security Clearance to an NV1 level. Your eligibility for this role is dependent on you obtaining and maintaining such clearance.
