About us:
Cairns and Hinterland Hospital and Health Service provide an extensive range of health services at more than 30 regional, rural and remote facilities across a geographical area of 142,900 square kilometres. The Health Service is 95 percent self-sufficient with only a small number of high- level acute services being provided in Townsville and Brisbane.
Atherton Hospital services include emergency, general medical, surgical, low-risk maternity, cancer care, and renal dialysis services. Atherton Hospital has 56 inpatient beds, 10 emergency department treatment spaces, 5 HDU beds, 8 chemotherapy chairs, 8 dialysis chairs and 5 maternity beds as well as diagnostic support services such as medical imaging, pharmacy, and pathology.
The hospital is located in the picturesque Atherton Tablelands, 1.5 hours drive from Cairns. The hospital was redeveloped in 2023 and provides outreach services to Malanda, Millaa Millaa, Mount Garnet, Ravenshoe, Croydon, Forsayth and Georgetown. Atherton is also a hub for nearby attractions such as waterfall walks, gourmet food and wine, and unique wildlife, as well as hiking, mountain biking, and a variety of water sports.
The Atherton Hospital Emergency Department (ED) provides a twenty-four-hour, seven day a week emergency service for the assessment, treatment, admission, transfer and discharge of adults and children with emergent, urgent, and non-urgent illnesses and injuries. Atherton Hospital Emergency department is a 9-bed unit, including a 2-bay resus. Nursing staff are also deployed to a Medical Outpatients clinic, Cardiology clinic and CT service.
About your role:
The Registered Nurse will be part of a cohesive team providing high-quality emergency nursing care to all members of the community. The Registered Nurse will lead, direct and supervise other nurses and care roles in the team, such as Enrolled Nurses (EN) and student Registered Nurses (SIN), to support quality care for patients/clients.
This role will include (but is not limited to):
Provide emergency care based on the rural generalist model of care.
With the relevant skills, perform triage and resus roles (Triage experience and ALS highly desirable but not essential).
Facilitate transfer and escorting of patients to other facilities.
