Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled and motivated Fibre Technician to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of fibre optic networks, with tasks including fibre hauling, splicing, and working on Passive Optical Network (PON) systems. This position also involves general labour work such as trenching and site preparation. A current ACMA Open Cablers Licence with the Fibre Endorsement is required.
Key Responsibilities:
Fibre Hauling
- Install and haul fibre optic cable in both underground and aerial environments.
- Operate cable hauling equipment, ensuring cables are handled and secured correctly.
- Assist with pulling cable through ducts, pits, and conduits.
Fibre Splicing
- Conduct splicing of fibre optic cables.
- Perform fibre testing and fault finding using OTDR, power meters, and light sources.
- Maintain accurate splicing records, diagrams, and test documentation.
PON Network Work
- Install and commission PON equipment including splitters, ONTs, and related infrastructure.
- Troubleshoot and test PON services according to network specifications.
- Work in compliance with design plans and service level standards.
General Labour
- Perform manual labour tasks such as trenching, duct installation, and site clean-up.
- Assist with loading, unloading, and setting up materials and equipment.
- Ensure job sites are maintained in a clean, safe, and organized condition.
Requirements:
- ACMA Open Cablers Licence with Fibre Endorsement (mandatory)
- Valid Driver’s Licence (Class C or higher); clean driving record
- Minimum 1–2 years’ experience in fibre optic installation and splicing
- Understanding of telecommunications infrastructure and standards
- Ability to read and interpret network plans and technical drawings
- Physically fit and comfortable working in a variety of environments and weather conditions
- Ability to travel to various job sites as required

Pay: $35.00 – $50.00 per hour
