Reef Safari Diving is seeking a qualified and experienced Dive Instructor to join our Great Barrier Reef operations team in the Whitsundays.
This is a full-time operational diving role paid in accordance with the Professional Diving Industry (Recreational) Award 2020 [MA000109]. The role involves rostered operational diving days, vessel-based reef operations and associated duties connected with commercial marine tourism.
The successful applicant will conduct introductory dives, certified dives, guided dives, guest supervision and general reef operations duties in a busy Great Barrier Reef tourism environment.
Key duties include:
- Conducting introductory dives, certified dives and guided dives in accordance with agency standards, Australian safety requirements and company procedures
- Supervising guests before, during and after dives
- Delivering clear dive briefings, safety briefings and equipment briefings
- Assessing guest confidence, ability, certification status and medical declarations before diving
- Monitoring diver comfort, air consumption, equalisation, buoyancy, fatigue and general safety
- Assisting with snorkelling supervision and in-water guest support as required
- Preparing, checking, cleaning and maintaining dive equipment
- Completing dive records, waivers, checklists and incident reports where required
- Working cooperatively with vessel crew, dive staff, photographers and management
- Assisting with vessel, marina, equipment and daily operational duties connected with reef trips
- Providing friendly, professional and inclusive customer service to guests of varying ages, abilities and experience levels
Required qualifications and experience:
- Current Open Water Scuba Instructor certification or equivalent recognised recreational scuba instructor qualification
- Current professional status with a recognised dive training agency
- Minimum 1 year of relevant professional experience in dive operations, dive supervision, dive instruction or a closely related field
- Current First Aid and CPR qualifications
- Current Oxygen Provider qualification, or ability to obtain before commencement
- Demonstrated experience supervising or instructing divers in open water environments
- Strong understanding of dive safety, risk management and guest duty of care
- Ability to work rostered operational days, including early starts and long vessel-based days
- Strong communication skills and the ability to manage guests calmly and professionally
- Physical fitness suitable for commercial diving, equipment handling and in-water guest support
Highly regarded:
- Experience conducting introductory dives
- Experience working on commercial reef tourism vessels
- Photography or souvenir photography experience
- Additional marine, rescue, boating or conservation qualifications
- Additional languages
- Experience working with international guests and first-time divers
