Minerals and Northern Compliance delivers environmental assessment and compliance services from offices in Cairns and Townsville and covers an area from the Burdekin Shire in the south, west to Boulia and the Northern Territory border, and north to Cape York and the Torres Strait Islands. North Queensland includes a range of industry and commerce including agriculture, livestock production, industrial development and includes the North West Mineral Province where most of the state's large base metal mining operations are located.
As a Team Leader you will be responsible for a small team ensuring specific outputs are delivered as it relates specifically to the assessment of mineral mining sites. You will require a high level of skills to monitor and support team members to deliver services effectively. You will manage the delivery of work agendas for your team and contribute to the overall service delivery of the branch.
The Team Leader will also be required to provide leadership, advice, direction and approval for their area of technical/professional expertise. Specifically, the Minerals Business Centre, where this role is based, undertakes statutory assessment functions for mineral mining and downstream mineral mining projects across Queensland. Assessment functions under the Environmental Protection Act 1994 include assessment and decision making around applications relating to Environmental Authorities, Progressive Rehabilitation and Closure Plans and Estimated Rehabilitation Costs.
Team Leaders work closely with the Manager, Minerals Business Centre, to ensure there is effective two way communication and issues relating to service delivery or team performance are raised and addressed. This is an excellent opportunity to apply your leadership and project management skills while expanding your technical knowledge in the application of principles and practices of environmental management.
It is essential that you possess a university degree (undergraduate and/or postgraduate) from a recognised tertiary institution in environmental management;
chemical, forensic, physical, geological, hydrological, environmental, applied and biological sciences, environmental engineering. Other closely related disciplines may be considered. If your qualification is issued by an Overseas Institution, you are responsible in obtaining official recognition - refer to the information in the position description under the section eligibility requirements and how to apply for the role.
You are also required to hold an unrestricted driver's license recognised in the State of Queensland and be prepared to obtain a manual license if you do not already.
