In this role, you’ll lead a small, skilled crew delivering high-quality reactive and planned maintenance, non-routine construction, and property connection services across Redland City’s water and wastewater networks. This is a hands-on leadership position, where your expertise in the water industry will directly contribute to essential services that support the community every day.
You’ll be responsible for ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and to a high standard, while fostering a strong safety culture and positive team environment. Council will support your continued growth with training and development opportunities, including pathways to gain full industry qualifications and progress your career.
We are particularly interested in candidates with strong hands-on industry experience. While a Certificate IV is highly regarded, we are open to considering highly experienced applicants who are willing to complete formal qualifications on the job.
Your responsibilities will include:
Leading a crew to deliver safe, timely, and high-quality maintenance and construction outcomes in the field
Overseeing day-to-day operations while fostering a collaborative, fair, and supportive team environment
Ensuring all works comply with relevant water industry standards, regulations, and best practices
Promoting and maintaining a strong safety-first culture across all activities
Providing technical guidance and hands-on problem-solving support in the field
Identifying opportunities for continuous improvement in work methods and processes
Maintaining accurate records, including job costing, reporting, and system updates
Building and maintaining positive relationships with customers and stakeholders through clear and professional communication
Skills and experience:
Proven ability to lead, mentor, and support a field-based work crew
Experience delivering water/wastewater maintenance and construction services
Strong interpersonal skills, including training, motivation, and conflict resolution
Physical capability to perform a wide range of manual and labouring tasks
Solid knowledge of WHS regulations and commitment to safety leadership
Customer-focused mindset with the ability to negotiate and resolve issues
Confidence making decisions in complex operational environments
Strong administrative, record-keeping, and communication skills

Eligibility:
- You'll hold a Current Class C driver’s licence
- You'll hold a Construction White Card (Work Safely in the Construction Industry)
- You'll have a Minimum of 4 years’ experience in the water industry
- You'll have the ability to participate in the after-hours on-call roster, including weekends and public holidays
- You'll have the ability and fitness to perform manual and physically demanding tasks
- You'll have the ability to obtain and maintain a Confined Space Entry Certificate
- You'll have a Certificate IV Water Industry Operations (or equivalent) or the ability to obtain this on the job qualification within 2 years of employment
