The firm
SolutionAxis is a Melbourne based legal practice offering practical, personal legal advice across family law, property and conveyancing, wills and estates, and commercial matters. We act for individuals, families and small business owners at the points where legal issues and life intersect, a separation, a property purchase, a business decision, planning for the future. Our clients deal directly with the solicitor running their file, and we focus on resolving matters commercially and efficiently, litigating only where it genuinely serves the client.
The Role
We're looking for a solicitor to join our practice. You'll run your own caseload of family and property matters end to end, from first consultation through mediation to court where needed, and work across the firm's property, estates and commercial files. Real file ownership, direct client contact, and senior support when the matter warrants it.
Key Responsibilities
- Consulting with clients to understand their legal issues and providing sound legal advice.
- Advise clients on parenting arrangements, property settlements, spousal maintenance, child support, divorce and de facto matters
- Draft initiating applications, responses, affidavits, financial statements, consent orders and binding financial agreements; manage the duty of disclosure.
- Representing clients in court, tribunals, and mediation settings.
- Conduct negotiations, family dispute resolution and mediation aimed at settling without litigation
- Appear in the FCFCOA and in intervention order matters, and brief and instruct counsel where required.
- Handle conveyancing and property law matters, including contract preparation, settlements and transfers arising from family law orders.
- Prepare wills, estate planning documents and probate applications, including post-separation updates.
- Draft, review and advise on contracts and commercial agreements; conduct legal research and prepare case strategy across the firm's practice areas.
- Manage a caseload independently deadlines, client communication and file quality
- Comply with the Legal Profession Uniform Law, including costs disclosure, conflict checks and trust account requirements; maintain accurate time recording and file records.
Skills and qualifications
- One-year post-admission experience with substantial family law and property law exposure.
- Sound working knowledge of the Family Law Act 1975 (Cth) and FCFCOA practice and procedure.
- At least a Bachelors Degree or higher
- Empathy and composure with clients in distress, without losing objectivity.
- Admitted in Victoria with a current practising certificate.
- Ability to speak in Sinhalese would be an added advantage
Pay: $80,000.00 – $90,000.00 per year
