We are now recruiting casual roles at Barwon Prison and Western Plains Correctional Centre.
The role
As a prison officer, you play a crucial part in a person’s rehabilitation journey and ensure the safety and security of the facility.
Prison officers supervise daily activities, support positive behaviour, and respond to incidents to ensure the safe operation of the prison.
Casual prison officers work across a range of areas within the facility, giving you experience in different roles and environments. Work on a 24/7 shift roster providing flexibility and work-life balance. Free on-site parking available.
About you
We’re seeking good communicators who approach each day with a positive mindset and a belief that people have the capacity to change.
There are no specific professional background or qualifications needed for the role. It’s your life experience that counts in this job.

✔ 42 days comprehensive paid training - note, training will be full-time hours
✔ Opportunity to complete a Certificate III in Correctional Practice (Adult Custodial), which, once completed, increases your hourly pay to $41.54

Eligibility
You must be an Australian or New Zealand citizen or hold Australian permanent residency. You also need to hold an Australian driver’s licence (minimum P2).

About the region
The Barwon Precinct is based in Lara and includes four facilities: Barwon Prison, Marngoneet Correctional Centre (Karreenga) and Victoria’s newest correctional centre, Western Plains. Each facility shares a people-first approach to rehabilitation, while offering varied environments and experiences for staff. Employees are based at one facility, with opportunities to grow their career across the Barwon Precinct.
Casual roles are not eligible for full-time role incentives.
