Dental Hygienist – Community Outreach & Oral Health Promotion
Position Summary
We are seeking an enthusiastic and community-focused Dental Hygienist to lead oral health promotion initiatives within schools, kindergartens, sporting clubs, and community organisations. This role combines clinical dental hygiene skills with community engagement, education, and preventive oral health services.
The successful candidate will represent the practice in the community, deliver oral health education programs, conduct mouthguard impression clinics for sporting clubs, and help build strong relationships with local organisations.
Key ResponsibilitiesCommunity Outreach & Relationship Building
- Develop and maintain relationships with local kindergartens, childcare centres, schools, sporting clubs, and community organisations.
- Coordinate and attend outreach events, health promotion activities, and community programs.
- Promote the practice's preventive dental services within the local community.
- Act as a professional ambassador for the practice at all community events.
Oral Health Education
- Design and deliver engaging oral health education sessions for children, parents, teachers, coaches, and community groups.
- Provide age-appropriate presentations covering topics such as:
- Toothbrushing techniques
- Healthy eating and sugar awareness
- Prevention of dental decay
- Sports-related dental injury prevention
- Importance of regular dental examinations
- Develop educational resources and promotional materials.
Sports Mouthguard Program
- Coordinate mouthguard clinics with local sporting clubs.
- Take dental impressions or digital scans for custom-fitted sports mouthguards.
- Educate athletes, coaches, and parents on the importance of mouthguard use and maintenance.
- Liaise with dental laboratories regarding mouthguard fabrication.
- Assist with fitting and delivery of completed mouthguards.
Clinical Responsibilities
- Perform dental hygiene procedures in accordance with current professional standards and regulations.
- Conduct oral health assessments and preventive care where appropriate.
- Provide oral hygiene instruction and preventive treatment recommendations.
- Maintain accurate clinical and outreach records.
Administration & Program Management
- Schedule and coordinate outreach visits and educational sessions.
- Maintain records of community engagement activities and outcomes.
- Assist in planning annual community health promotion initiatives.
- Contribute to marketing and community engagement strategies.
Essential Qualifications & Experience
- Current registration as a Dental Hygienist with the Dental Board of Australia.
- Current Working with Children Check.
- Current CPR certification.
- Valid driver's licence and willingness to travel to community locations.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Experience working with children and families.
- Strong organisational and time-management abilities.
Desirable Qualifications & Experience
- Experience in public health or community oral health programs.
- Experience delivering educational presentations.
- Experience with sports mouthguard impression taking and fitting.
- Knowledge of health promotion principles and preventive dentistry.

Pay: $35.00 – $42.00 per hour
