The Metal Machinist is responsible for setting up and operating machine tools to shape and form metal stock and castings to precise specifications. This role involves interpreting detailed drawings and CAD models, calculating dimensions, and performing machining operations to produce exact parts. The machinist may also undertake heat treatment processes and operate CNC machines, as well as other specialised tools and equipment.
Certificate III in Machining qualification is required for this position.
MAIN DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Set up and operate CNC machines, drilling, turning, boring, plating, and milling machines, lathes, and other hand tools to shape metal parts.
CNC programming experience is required for this role.
· Set up components for welding and joining according to specifications.
· Read blueprints, drawings, and CAD designs to understand job specifications.
Basic level blueprint reading ability is required.
· Calculate dimensions, measure, and mark metal for machining processes.
· Determine the appropriate equipment or method based on job requirements.
· Machine parts and components to be used in assembling final products.
· Test and inspect surfaces, structures, and components to discover and correct flaws.
· Maintain accuracy and precision in all machining tasks using precise measuring equipment.
· Maintain equipment to ensure it operates safely and efficiently.
· Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on machinery.
· Wear appropriate safety gear, including goggles, gloves, boots, and protective clothing.
· Adhere to all safety regulations and company policies to ensure a safe working environment.
· Undertake other duties related to skills and capabilities as required by the company.
A minimum of 1-2 years of machining experience is required for this Metal Machinist position.
SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
QUALIFICATIONS:
· Trade qualifications in a relevant field or commensurate work experience.
· Experience with CNC machines and various machining tools.
· Strong understanding of technical drawings and specifications.
· Proficiency in using precise measuring instruments.
· Knowledge of safety procedures and best practices in a machining environment.
ELIGIBILITY:

SKILLS:
1. Intermediate computer skills with experience in using Office 365- Word/Excel/PowerPoint.
2. Ability to work under limited supervision individually or in a team environment.
3. Autonomous and solves their work planning problems.
4. Strong attention to detail.
5. Good manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination.
6. Good verbal and written communication skills.
