Buddy Advisory is proud to be partnering with Business Automation Works (BAW), a fast-growing business delivering smart automation solutions to the financial services sector, including accounting practices. By replacing manual, time-consuming processes with smarter, more innovative ways of working, BAW lifts productivity and job satisfaction, freeing practice managers, partners, and admin staff to focus on what matters most: client relationships and engagement.
The role
A newly created Senior Software Engineer vacancy now exists for an experienced engineer to join the growing team in Geelong. This is a hands-on role spanning BAW's product suite with a focus on backend architecture, API and service development, data workflows, solution design, and technical mentoring. You'll bring real, lived experience taking software through to production, a high-agency mindset, and the appetite to help shape not just what we build, but how we build it.
The responsibilities
Design, build and maintain .NET backend services powering BAW's product suite, from architecture through to performance tuning.
Develop and maintain backend APIs, authentication and logging patterns, and contribute to shared, reusable application components.
Build and maintain data ingestion, transformation and processing workflows, ensuring reliable, high-quality data movement across systems.
Owns and drives the adoption of AI-assisted tooling across the team's processes and ways of working.
Contribute to database schemas, design SQL queries and stored procedures, seeking to continuously improve performance, data quality and observability.
Contribute to solution design, technical specifications and acceptance criteria for backend work.
Lead or contribute to incident investigation and resolution for backend services and data processing systems.
Mentor developers, review code, and help lift engineering standards and practices as the team matures.
Partner closely with product, engineering leadership and the Customer Success team to translate business needs into technical solutions.
The requirements
Extensive software engineering experience in a SaaS/scale-up environment, with a track record of taking software through to production, end-to-end.
Strong, current .NET/C# and SQL Server experience, mandatory. React is highly regarded.
Broad backend capability across APIs, background processing and data workflows — not just customer-facing app work.
A high-agency, ownership mindset; you think commercially and about customer impact, not just technology for its own sake.
Genuine curiosity and energy for AI-assisted tooling, ideally backed by professional and personal builds.
Comfort with breadth, ambiguity and switching context across many systems, without needing a manual to get things done.
Excellent people skills and the ability to coach, mentor and grow others, complementing your engineering depth.
Why join
Broad exposure across a modern, containerised, microservices-based stack.
Genuine influence over technology stack, engineering standards, solution design and team development.
A clear pathway to a future Technical Lead role as the team and business scale.
Based in our Geelong office, with real proximity to customers and commercial impact.
A leadership team actively investing in AI-assisted tooling and modern ways of working.
A fast-growing company solving genuinely meaningful problems for financial services businesses.
