We're currently looking for a Data Analyst based in Brisbane, Australia. This position will be seconded to the parent company.
The Data Analyst will be a subject matter expert in transforming equipment data into insights that improve the performance, reliability, and health of heavy mining equipment. They will work closely with business stakeholders to understand operational challenges and develop data-driven solutions, including new data products that support emerging needs across the organization and industry.
This role requires strong analytical capability, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to translate complex data into clear, actionable insights.
Key Responsibilities
Data Collection & Preparation
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to source, integrate, and validate data from multiple systems.
- Develop and maintain data products that support analysis and reporting across the business.
- Ensure data quality, consistency, and usability.
Data Analysis & Modelling
- Apply statistical and machine learning techniques to identify patterns, trends, anomalies, and improvement opportunities.
- Build predictive and prescriptive models that support equipment reliability, maintenance strategies, and operational decision-making.
Visualization & Reporting
- Create clear and compelling data visualizations, dashboards, and reports for both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Develop interactive dashboards to support real-time monitoring and operational insights.
Operational Optimization
- Partner with engineers and mining specialists to uncover drivers of inefficiency and equipment underperformance.
- Support the development of algorithms, tools, and workflows that enhance automated decision support.
Key Deliverables
- Experiment Designs & Results: Structured plans, data collection approaches, statistical methods, and conclusions from controlled tests or operational experiments.
- Dashboards & Applications: User-friendly tools enabling stakeholders to explore, filter, and visualize curated data sets.
- Analysis Reports: Clear summaries of findings, including visualizations, hypotheses, conclusions, and recommended actions.
- Data Models: Machine learning, statistical, or logic-based models, including associated preprocessing and evaluation steps.
Experience & Knowledge
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Statistics, Data Science, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related field.
- Strong background in data exploration, statistics, visualization, and analytical problem-solving.
- Ability to scope analytical problems, plan work, manage timelines, and deliver high-quality outcomes.
- Proficiency in Python and SQL is essential.
- Experience with visualization tools/libraries (Grafana, Plotly, Matplotlib, etc.) is highly regarded.
- Exposure to heavy industry, mining, industrial IoT, or equipment health monitoring is highly regarded.
- Fluent in English; Japanese language skills are a plus.
