The Legislation, Policy and Programs Division in the Justice and Community Safety Directorate is seeking to fill temporary vacancies in its Human Rights Branch and Civil and Regulatory Law Branch and will establish a merit pool which will be used to fill vacancies across the Branch for the next 12 months.
The Human Rights Branch has a temporary vacancy, at the SOG B Director level, in the Human Rights and Social Policy team. This team has policy responsibility for legislation relating to human rights, discrimination, privacy and other areas. The successful applicant will have responsibility for managing the human rights scrutiny work of the team as well as undertaking more complex legal policy work, supported by a friendly and experienced leadership team.
The Civil and Regulatory Law Branch has a temporary vacancy, at the SOG B Director level, in the Access to Justice team. This team has portfolio responsibility for key justice system legislation including relating to electoral law, the ACT Courts and Tribunal, civil litigation and regulation of the legal profession. The successful applicant will lead legislative reform projects and appointment process to the Courts and Tribunal; and will manage two Policy officers.
The successful applicants will provide leadership, autonomously manage a work program and prepare high quality reports, briefs, submissions and correspondence for Ministers. SOG B Directors develop and promote positive relationships with key stakeholders and support JACS Executive at high level meetings.
To be successful, the applicants will require excellent legal research and analytical skills, a detailed understanding of government processes, and strong stakeholder engagement, organisational, and collaboration skills
Eligibility/Other requirements: Relevant tertiary qualifications in law or a related field are highly desirable but not essential.

A Merit Pool will be established from this selection process to fill the full-time vacancies over the next 12 months.
