Role
As a full-time Chef, you will be passionate about preparing and cooking high-quality dishes to standard, ensuring every guest enjoys an exceptional dining experience. You will achieve this by consistently delivering quality food, maintaining the highest standards of cleanliness and food safety, and confidently executing Om Sweet & Curry House’s standards at all times.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain authentic Indian recipes and menu items while ensuring food and labour costs remain within budget. Review and analyse menus, recipes, and food preparation processes to maximise quality, profitability, and customer satisfaction. Lead, supervise, and support the kitchen team, creating a positive and productive working environment with ongoing learning opportunities. Ensure all dishes prepared at Om Sweet & Curry House consistently meet high standards of quality, presentation, and taste. Manage stock ordering, storage, and the efficient use of kitchen equipment and supplies to minimise wastage. Maintain compliance with all company policies, food safety regulations, and hygiene standards. Drive team productivity, motivation, and workplace morale within the kitchen. Monitor food costs, portion control, waste management, and daily kitchen operations to maintain profitability. Train, mentor, and guide junior kitchen staff while implementing training programs where required. Assist in creating seasonal menus and introducing innovative Indian dishes and flavours to enhance the customer dining experience.
Knowledge & Skills
- Previous experience as a Chef or Sous Chef in a busy Indian restaurant or hospitality environment. Certificate IV in Commercial Cookery (or equivalent qualification). Strong knowledge of authentic Indian cuisine, spices, curries, sweets, tandoor cooking, and food presentation. Proven experience in menu planning, recipe development, and kitchen operations management. Excellent communication, leadership, and time management skills with the ability to lead a diverse team. Sound understanding of food safety standards, HACCP, and workplace hygiene practices. Ability to work efficiently under pressure and make confident operational decisions. Flexible availability to work across a rotating roster, including evenings, weekends, and public holidays.
