The Opportunity
Urbis is seeking a Senior Business Analyst to join our Financial Planning & Analysis team in Melbourne.
This opportunity has arisen through the internal career progression of an existing team member into a new role at Urbis. It reflects our commitment to developing our people and means the successful candidate will join an established team with strong business relationships, well-developed processes and ongoing support.
Reporting to the Financial Planning & Analysis Manager, you will partner with business leaders and operational teams to support informed commercial decision-making. You will contribute to the annual budget and forecast processes, monthly financial reporting, performance analysis, and the ongoing development of our reporting and analytical capabilities.
This role offers broad exposure across the organisation and the opportunity to combine financial analysis, business partnering, reporting development and process improvement. You will be encouraged to bring new ideas, challenge existing approaches and help make financial information easier for stakeholders to understand and act on.
You Will
- Partner with leaders and managers across your areas of responsibility to provide financial insight and practical decision support.
- Support the preparation and delivery of the annual budget, financial forecasts, and longer-term financial modelling.
- Prepare monthly management reporting and clearly explain material performance variances, underlying drivers, risks and opportunities.
- Develop and maintain reporting solutions using Excel, Power BI and other business analysis tools.
- Work with Finance, business operations and other stakeholders to produce accurate, timely and meaningful reporting.
- Translate complex financial and operational information into clear insights and recommendations for non-financial stakeholders.
- Model revenue, workforce and cost scenarios to support business planning and commercial decisions.
- Identify emerging business performance challenges and work with stakeholders to develop practical corrective actions.
- Provide value-adding analysis for strategic projects, business initiatives and ad hoc requests.
- Identify and implement opportunities to improve reporting, processes, controls, and technology use within FP&A.
About You
You are a commercially minded analyst who enjoys working with people, solving problems, and turning financial and operational data into meaningful insights.
You will bring:
- Approximately three to five years of experience in Financial Planning & Analysis, commercial finance, management reporting or financial business analysis.
- Strong stakeholder management and business partnering skills, with the confidence to engage constructively with both financial and non-financial stakeholders.
- Advanced Excel capability, including pivot tables, lookups, data modelling, Power Pivot and the preparation of clear charts and reports.
- Experience developing reports and dashboards using Power BI or a comparable business intelligence tool.
- Experience working with financial systems, accounting packages and large or complex datasets.
- The ability to investigate financial performance, identify key drivers and communicate findings in a clear and practical way.
- Strong attention to detail, sound judgement and the ability to manage competing priorities and reporting deadlines.
- A proactive and improvement-focused mindset, with an interest in using technology, automation and AI tools such as Microsoft Copilot to improve how work is performed.
- Experience in a professional services or similarly complex, people-based organisation would be advantageous.
- A CA or CPA qualification, or progress towards one, would be advantageous; however, relevant commercial, analytical, and business-partnering experience will also be highly regarded.
