Primary objective
Manage all aspects of data collection for BreastScreenNT (BSNT).
Context statement
The Data Manager provides a client-focused quality service for BSNT clients through the administration and operational
effectiveness of the BSNT client management system (CIS) including the provision of accurate statistics to inform local and
national reports on screening and assessment functions carried out by the service. It also provides support to the data needs
of the other national cancer screening programs. This position requires a high level of knowledge of CIS functionality,
excellent attention to detail particularly pertaining to quality assurance and analytical procedures, and a strong understanding
of the need for confidentiality.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Maintain and administer data collections for BSNT.
2. Participate in the development and management of data management systems including BSNT Client Information
System, Picture Archiving & Communication System, associated protocols, incorporating procedures for quality control
and improvement, system problem resolution, maintenance and upgrades.
3. Analyse and interpret statistical data, prepare data and reports according to Northern Territory and Commonwealth
requirements.
4. Identify ongoing information needs and special research necessary to support the services planning and evaluation
activities.
5. Develop and maintain service policies, procedures, protocols and guidelines for data management.
6. Follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being
undertaken in order to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Appropriate (or ability to obtain) qualifications with a significant component in computing and social statistical
methodology.
2. Well-developed experience in operating, managing and developing databases.
3. Experience in the collection, analysis and interpretation of information with an emphasis on clinical services
delivery/social demographic statistics and or epidemiological issues.
4. Demonstrated problem solving skills that achieve effective program delivery.
5. Ability to promote the effective use of information in policy planning, management and health service delivery.
6. Advanced competency in other relevant software and ability to provide ICT support to team.
Desirable
1. Knowledge of public health screening programs
