Overview
The Product Consultant will support the review, clarification and resolution of product design matters across accumulation, retirement and pension-related features, including pension bonus features and emerging longevity options. The role will work with Product, Transformation, Technology, Operations, Client Delivery, Risk and Compliance stakeholders to help translate business, client, member and regulatory needs into clear design positions, requirements and implementation considerations.
The role is intended to provide additional product capability, supporting decision-making, documentation and stakeholder alignment while ensuring proposed solutions are practical, compliant, scalable and capable of being delivered through the organisation’s existing platforms and operating model.
Key Accountabilities and main responsibilities
Product Design Review & Resolution
- Review existing and proposed product designs for accumulation, retirement and pension-related features.
- Clarify business objectives, member outcomes, client needs and operational implications associated with proposed product features.
- Identify design gaps, dependencies, assumptions, risks and decision points requiring resolution.
- Support the development of clear design recommendations and options for consideration by Product, Transformation and business stakeholders.
- Help ensure product design decisions are documented in a clear, traceable and reusable manner.
Requirements & Documentation
- Translate agreed product design positions into business requirements, functional considerations, acceptance criteria and supporting documentation.
- Work with business analysts, product owners and technology teams to ensure requirements are sufficiently clear for delivery assessment and implementation planning.
- Support the preparation and maintenance of design artefacts, decision logs, issue registers, briefing papers and stakeholder summaries.
- Contribute to implementation readiness materials, including operational impacts, process changes, training considerations and client support needs.
Stakeholder Engagement & Alignment
- Engage with internal stakeholders across Product, Transformation, Technology, Operations, Client Delivery, Legal, Risk and Compliance to gather input and resolve design questions.
- Facilitate workshops and working sessions to progress design issues, confirm decisions and align stakeholders on practical outcomes.
- Support engagement with fund clients and external partners where required, ensuring product discussions are clear, balanced and well prepared.
- Communicate complex product considerations in a simple and structured way for both technical and non-technical audiences.
Risk, Compliance & Member Outcomes
- Consider regulatory, compliance, trustee, operational and member experience implications as part of product design review.
- Partner with Risk, Compliance and Legal teams to ensure product recommendations are appropriately assessed and documented.
- Support identification and mitigation of product, operational and implementation risks.
- Promote product design outcomes that are practical, sustainable and aligned to member and client needs.
Delivery Support & Implementation Readiness
- Provide product input into delivery planning, prioritisation, testing preparation and implementation readiness activities.
- Support resolution of product questions arising during design, build, test and implementation phases.
- Work with delivery teams to ensure product intent is preserved through implementation and that key decisions remain aligned to the agreed design.
- Contribute to post-implementation review activities and capture learnings for future product development.

Experience & Personal Attributes
- Strong experience in product management, regulatory implementation, or compliance in financial services
- Strong understanding of product design, requirements definition, stakeholder engagement and delivery support.
- Experience working with pension, retirement income, member administration, platform, insurance, advice or financial services products is desirable.
- Ability to interpret complex business, regulatory and operational requirements and translate them into clear product considerations.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to work through ambiguity and bring structure to complex design questions.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare concise papers, summaries and decision materials.
- Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to build credibility and influence outcomes without direct authority.
- High attention to detail and strong documentation discipline.
- Comfortable working in a delivery environment with multiple priorities, dependencies and timeframes.
- Commercial awareness and a practical approach to balancing client, member, compliance, technology and operational considerations.
University degree or relevant professional experience desirable but not required.
