The Role
SMEC is seeking an experienced and commercially minded Team Leader – Bridges & Structures in Melbourne to lead and grow our Bridges & Structures capability. This is an exciting opportunity to influence the direction of a high-performing team, develop key client relationships, win and deliver major infrastructure projects, and contribute to the continued growth of our nationally recognised Transport business.
In this leadership role, you will be responsible for managing technical excellence, commercial performance, business development, and team development while delivering outstanding outcomes for our clients. Working alongside a multidisciplinary team of engineers, designers and project managers, you will play a key role in shaping the future of bridge and structures projects across the region
Key responsibilities include:

Leading and developing a high-performing Bridges & Structures team.

Driving business growth through client relationship management, market engagement and business development activities.

Identifying, pursuing and securing opportunities across transport and infrastructure markets.

Leading the delivery of complex bridges and structures projects from planning through to completion.

Providing technical leadership, mentorship and guidance to engineers and designers.

Managing team performance, utilisation, resourcing and professional development.

Monitoring project and team financial performance to achieve business objectives.

Ensuring the delivery of high-quality technical solutions that meet client requirements and industry standards.

Building and maintaining strong relationships with clients, industry partners and key stakeholders.

Contributing to business planning and implementing initiatives that support the ongoing growth of the team.
About You
-
A degree qualification in Civil or Structural Engineering.
-
8+ years of experience in bridge and structures engineering within a consulting environment.
-
Demonstrated leadership experience managing and developing technical teams.
-
Strong project management and commercial acumen.
-
Proven success in client relationship management and business development.
-
Experience leading multidisciplinary infrastructure projects.
-
Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
-
Strong understanding of Australian design standards and transport infrastructure delivery.
-
Chartered Engineer status (or working towards) would be highly regarded.

A collaborative leadership style with a passion for mentoring and developing others.
