What’s the role?
This is a unique opportunity to lead one of the most strategically important analytics capabilities within Westpac Institutional Bank.
As Head of DDAI DataX and GTS, you will define and deliver the client-facing data, analytics and AI strategy, using payments and transaction data to drive growth, deepen client value, and position the bank as a market leader in data-driven insights.
Reporting to the GM, Data, Digital & AI (WIB), this role sits at the intersection of commercial strategy, advanced analytics and data governance, with direct impact on transaction banking performance and client outcomes.
The Opportunity
You will lead the combined DataX and GTS Analytics capability, responsible for:
- Commercialising analytics products and insights externally
- Driving growth across payments, deposits and transaction banking
- Enhancing economic insights through advanced data science and AI
- Positioning DataX as a credible, modern, AI-forward analytics capability
- Ensuring trusted, governed use of sensitive client and transaction data
This is a high-profile, externally facing leadership role requiring deep credibility across both business and technical domains.
Key Responsibilities:
- Define and execute the DataX and GTS Analytics strategy aligned to WIB priorities
- Lead and build high-performing analytics and data science teams
- Drive commercialisation of analytics offerings using payments and transaction data
- Enable analytics-led growth in GTS, payments and deposits
- Partner with Economics to enhance macro insights through AI and alternative data
- Act as a senior client-facing representative of Westpac’s analytics capability
- Ensure strong governance across data privacy, consent and regulatory obligations
- Partner with Risk, Legal and Compliance on safe and responsible data use
- Strong domain expertise in transaction banking, institutional banking or economics
- Proven leadership in analytics, data science or AI at scale (10+ years)
- Experience working with payments, deposits or transaction data
- Track record of commercialising analytics or data-driven products (highly regarded)
- Experience operating in complex, regulated environments
- Strong commercial acumen with the ability to translate analytics into growth
- Deep technical credibility across analytics, data science and AI
- Exceptional stakeholder engagement, including clients and senior executives
- Strong risk, privacy and governance judgement
Proven ability to build and lead high-performing teams
