About the role
We are seeking an experienced General Manager - Restaurants to join Canberra Hawkers Pty Ltd in Canberra, ACT. This is a full-time position that offers a unique opportunity to lead and oversee our restaurant operations, ensuring the highest standards of service, food quality, and customer satisfaction. This role will transition into a Group General Manager role when the current GM finishes up. As General Manager, you will play a strategic role in driving business growth, optimising operational efficiency, and creating a positive workplace culture across our restaurant portfolio. This is a key leadership position that directly impacts the success and reputation of our brand in the Canberra hospitality market.
Key responsibilities
- Oversee the day-to-day operations of all restaurant locations, ensuring consistent delivery of service excellence and adherence to brand standards
- Develop and implement strategic plans to drive revenue growth, improve profitability, and enhance market positioning
- Manage budgets, financial forecasting, and P&L responsibilities across multiple restaurant venues
- Recruit, train, and develop high-performing teams, fostering a positive and inclusive workplace culture
- Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, food standards, and all relevant hospitality industry requirements
- Maintain strong relationships with customers, addressing feedback and implementing improvements based on customer insights
- Oversee menu development, pricing strategies, and supplier relationships to optimise cost control and food quality
- Monitor and analyse operational metrics, sales performance, and market trends to inform business decisions
- Lead marketing and promotional initiatives to increase brand awareness and customer engagement
- Manage inventory, stock control, and waste management across all locations
What we're looking for
- Minimum 5 years of experience in hospitality management, with at least 2 years in a general manager or senior leadership role within the restaurant industry
- Proven track record of successfully managing multiple restaurant locations or a large-scale hospitality operation
- Strong financial acumen, including experience with P&L management, budgeting, and financial analysis
- Excellent leadership and people management skills with the ability to inspire and motivate diverse teams
- Comprehensive knowledge of food and beverage operations, including menu planning, food safety standards, and supplier management
- Proficiency in hospitality management systems and point-of-sale (POS) software
- Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with staff, customers, and suppliers
- Demonstrated ability to drive business growth and improve operational efficiency
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to make sound decisions in a fast-paced environment
- Current knowledge of health and safety regulations and hospitality industry best practices
- Certification in Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) is highly desirable

Pay: $85,000.22 – $124,400.02 per year
