About the role
The Senior Telecommunications Operational Technology (OT) Engineer is responsible for identifying and undertaking detailed research, design preparation and planning activities across Essential Energy's Telecommunications OT Network. The role provides strategic technical evaluation and implementation of engineering solutions across a range of technical functions, including the development of new criteria, applications, systems and procedures.
You will also be responsible for managing design and evaluation programs of work, validating equipment and systems, and contributing to the development of broader plans, budgets and strategies that support the ongoing performance and reliability of the Telecommunications OT Network.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the research, development, implementation, monitoring and review of technical work programs to achieve optimal commercial and network outcomes.
- Provide strategic technical input and support for Telecommunications OT Network programs, designs and initiatives.
- Research, identify and recommend business improvement opportunities and support the implementation of network strategies.
- Undertake detailed fault analysis and implement solutions to ensure service levels are maintained.
- Provide technical expertise to project teams in integration and automation technologies.
- Analyse system performance data and prepare reports with recommendations for system enhancements and improvements.
- Support the initiation, configuration and commissioning of telecommunications equipment across Essential Energy's OT infrastructure, including substations, telecommunications facilities and data centres.
About You
You are a highly capable telecommunications or OT professional with strong engineering expertise and a strategic mindset. You enjoy solving complex technical challenges, driving continuous improvement and working collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams.
To be successful, you will have:
- Demonstrated experience in a similar engineering role within utilities, telecommunications, asset management or engineering environments.
- Extensive knowledge of telecommunications design philosophies, principles and procedures.
- Proven ability to analyse and resolve complex technical and engineering issues during planned and unplanned events.
- Experience managing priorities, projects and business unit activities in a proactive and professional manner.
- Strong understanding of OT network security practices and risk mitigation controls.
- Excellent problem-solving, decision-making, communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
Required qualifications
- Bachelor Degree in Engineering (Telecommunications), Engineering, Information Technology, or demonstrated capability through relevant experience and/or qualifications.
Desirable
Level 3 Restricted Zone Substation Access.
