Primary objective
Assist the KFLEC Coordinator in providing an education program for children with low/high special needs, by working with
individual students or small groups within the learning unit and classroom situations.
Context statement
Katherine High School is the only government secondary school in Katherine. It provides an educational service to students
from Year 7 to Year 12. In the Senior Years students are provided with multiple achievement pathways to ensure they
receive the education most appropriate to their needs. The school caters to a diverse population from a range of diverse
social, educational and cultural backgrounds. Katherine High School has an offsite program, Katherine Flexible Learning and
Engagement Centre and provides an alternate program for disengaged and at-risk teenagers in the Katherine area. The

Key duties and responsibilities
1. Under the direction of the Assistant Principal and KFLEC Coordinator, assist with the implementation of Individual
Education Programs and instruction and supervision of students on an individual basis.
2. Assist teachers with planning, preparation and the delivery of activities for students including the modification of
materials.
3. Maintain records, undertake general administrative duties, assist with personal care needs of students, administer first
aid and attend to sick students as necessary.
4. Assist with school wide administrative tasks as required.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. A first aid certificate or equivalent qualification or the ability to gain a suitable qualification as soon as possible.
2. Successful experience working with and caring for students with low-high special needs, particularly in an instructional
and teaching role.
3. Demonstrated strong work ethic, which includes the use of initiative, flexibility, sound judgement skills and understanding
of confidentiality and security as it relates to this position.
4. Well-developed interpersonal skills including the ability to communicate effectively at all levels, work with minimal
direction, determine work priorities, organise workflow and meet deadlines and work as part of a team.
5. Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with diverse cultures.
6. A current NT Working with Children (Ochre Card) clearance, Northern Territory driver’s licence.
