About the Opportunity
As Team Leader, Environmental Health, you’ll lead a dedicated team that helps make Adelaide a safe, healthy and welcoming place to live, work and visit. This is an opportunity to combine your technical expertise, leadership skills and passion for community outcomes to deliver services that have a direct impact on the wellbeing of our city.
Leading a team of Environmental Health professionals, you’ll provide guidance, coaching and support while overseeing a broad range of regulatory functions. From food safety and public health compliance to supported residential facilities and community education initiatives, you'll ensure Council meets its legislative obligations while taking a balanced and practical approach to regulation.
This is a role that goes beyond enforcement. You'll work closely with residents, businesses, government agencies and industry stakeholders to build positive relationships, raise awareness and achieve sustainable outcomes for the community. Whether responding to complex health matters, investigating complaints, contributing to emergency responses or helping shape proactive public health initiatives, you'll play an important role in enhancing Adelaide's reputation as a safe and vibrant city.
You’ll also have the opportunity to influence how services are delivered, collaborate across the sector to identify and advocate for improvements, implement new approaches and contribute to strategic planning across the City Safety team. With responsibility for team performance, resource planning and service delivery outcomes, this role offers the chance to make a meaningful impact while developing a high-performing and engaged team in a unique Capital City context.
About You
To be successful in this role you will have:
- Experience leading teams in a legislative environment.
- Working knowledge of Local Government Act, Food Act, Public Health Act, Supported Residential Facilities Act, Environmental Protection (Burning) Policy, and other legislation or willingness to acquire.
- Demonstrated ability to deliver community education strategies and initiatives.
- Demonstrated ability to lead compliance & enforcement processes, with a customer focussed approach.
- Experience managing complex and/or sensitive issues and their impact on public safety.
- Experience in providing effective leadership which continually enhances and builds the team’s capability and productivity.
- Ability to autonomously make consistent decisions that reflect legislative imperatives and the strategic priorities of Council.
