Primary objective
Provide specialist Obstetrics and Gynaecology services, through the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, to Alice
Springs Hospital, Alice Springs and Barkly regions and fringe areas of Western Australian and South Australia.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Provide high quality care for in-patient and outpatient clinical services in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
2. Undertake outreach clinics in the wider community as required.
3. Provide advice to the Executive Director of Medical and Clinical Services on matters relating to Women’s health at Alice
Springs Hospital (ASH) and Central Australia; participate in relevant hospital committees and in other administrative
duties as required.
4. Initiate and partake in quality management, peer review and ongoing personal medical education programs; undertake
research as appropriate/ desired.
5. Ensure adequate supervision of and participate in teaching for junior staff; participate in education programs for medical
students.
6. Follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being
undertaken to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces.
7. Foster a positive workplace culture through exemplary leadership practices and role modelling behaviour.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Must have general and/or specialist registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
2. Appropriate specialist qualification, ie: Fellowship of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists of Australia
and New Zealand.
3. Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills, and the ability to interact positively in a cross-cultural work
environment, as a team member.
4. Ability to work effectively as part of the multi-disciplinary team and a demonstrated interest in and commitment to
improving rural and Indigenous child health and an ability to work in a cross-cultural environment.
5. Ability to assume administrative and supervisory responsibilities
6. Demonstrated initiative and ability to motivate others and to directly manage, teach and improve performance of junior
staff.
