You want to play a part in making NSW a better place to work, live and travel.
You're all about the detail and this role will allow you to drive evidence-based decision making to optimise systems and efficiency, not just for the business but for our customers too. It's data and research with impact you can see.
In this role, you'll:
Working as part of a team creating and delivering small area demographic projections, this role will see you supporting the collection, analysis, and interpretation of demographic, land use and economic data to inform evidence based transport planning and modelling activities.
You will contribute to the development and maintenance of assumptions underpinning the travel zone projections model, assist with research into population, workforce, employment, students and housing trends, and help translate complex technical inputs into clear, accessible advice—building on your capability across planning, modelling and stakeholder informed decision making.

About you
You will collect, prepare, and analyse population, workforce, employment and demographic data to support forecasting and modelling activities and ensure that data is of appropriate quality for input to the Travel Zone Projections model and subsequently the strategic transport models. You will undertake research into Travel Zone projections model inputs, assumptions and trends (e.g. housing, industry, economic factors), ensuring robustness and appropriateness of the assumptions underpinning the travel zone projections.
Your analytical skills, attention to detail and ability to work collaboratively, will see you excel in producing high quality data, supporting modelling processes and managing multiple tasks simultaneously, helping to deliver defensible, evidence-based outputs that inform strategic transport decisions.
You’re recognised as a capable and reliable analyst, skilled at interpreting quantitative data, communicating insights in plain language and supporting quality assurance processes, experienced in working with large scale data sets, analytical and mapping tools (ArcGIS/QGIS); also experienced in supporting stakeholders with planning and forecasting outcomes in a public sector or consulting environment. Knowledge of Python and R script is desirable.
