Role Description:
The Data Engineering is a senior, client-facing role responsible for defining, shaping, and leading enterprise data engineering and data platform solutions for Australian Federal Government clients. The role has a strong focus on presales leadership, data platform modernization strategy, and trusted advisory engagement with senior public sector stakeholders.

Salary: AUD 129,311- 142,018 Annual Gross

Roles and Responsibilities:-
Own the end-to-end data engineering solution architecture across presales and delivery phases.

Lead discovery, fit-gap, and solution-shaping workshops with Federal Government clients.
-
Assess existing data platforms and legacy data landscapes and define pragmatic modern data platform adoption and transformation options (cloud data warehousing, lakehouse, and streaming architectures).

Drive and support presales activities including RFP/RFI responses, solution documentation, and executive-level presentations.

Act as a trusted advisor to CDOs, CTOs, SES stakeholders, and program sponsors.

Promote data engineering best-practice and standardization (e.g., medallion architecture, DataOps, CI/CD for data pipelines) to maximize business value and reduce technical debt.

Provide architectural governance and technical design oversight to delivery teams.

Mentor Data Engineers and Solution Architects and contribute to Public Sector Data & AI practice and capability growth.
Technical Expertise & Federal Data Requirements-
Deep expertise in modern data engineering: batch and streaming ETL/ELT pipelines, data lakehouse and warehouse architectures (e.g., Databricks, Snowflake, Azure Synapse, BigQuery).

Strong experience with Public Sector data solutions including data governance, master data management, data classification, and data sovereignty requirements.

Understanding of Federal Government data governance frameworks, protective security requirements (PSPF/ISM-aligned), and Australian Government data policy.

Experience designing or advising on high-volume data ingestion, real-time streaming, and data quality/reconciliation solutions.

Strong understanding of legacy-to-cloud data migration strategies, tooling, risks, and adoption approaches (conceptual and advisory).

Experience developing pre-sales prototypes or proof-of-concepts (including GenAI/agentic data pipelines) to support solution validation (desirable).
Essential:-
12+ years of data engineering consulting experience, including leadership of large and complex data programs.

Proven experience in data solution architecture and presales for public sector or regulated environments.

Direct experience with Australian Federal Government clients strongly preferred.

Cloud data platform certifications (e.g., Azure, AWS, GCP, Databricks, Snowflake) are desirable.

Ability to obtain or hold an Australian Government Security Clearance (Baseline or higher).
