MAIN PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
To primarily carry out professional painting, decorating, and surface preparation work on residential projects.
OBJECTIVES OF THIS ROLE
Deliver flawless surface finishes on residential, remedial, and construction projects by applying expert painting and coating techniques
- Protect and extend asset lifespans through high-quality application of protective sealers, primers, and weatherproofing finishes
- Optimise project timelines by managing workspace preparation, material preparation, and coatings application efficiently.
- Maintain immaculate and safe work areas, ensuring the proper handling, ventilation, and disposal of all paint and chemical materials.
- Drive positive brand representation and repeat business by demonstrating exceptional trade craftsmanship and maintaining strong on-site client relations.
- Collaborate dynamically with fellow site tradesmen and supervisors to ensure seamless project handovers.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The key roles and responsibilities of the role include:
- Inspect surfaces and conduct required repairs, patching, or maintenance before painting.
- Study specifications in blueprints, sketches, or building plans to determine dimensions, layout, and materials required.
- Take accurate measurements to calculate the total surface area and amount of paint, primer, or materials needed.
- Prepare surfaces thoroughly by scraping, sanding, sandblasting, or hydro-washing to remove old paint and smooth rough spots.
- Fill holes, cracks, and joints with putty, plaster, or other fillers using putty knives or trowels.
- Remove fixtures such as doorknobs, switches, or outlet covers prior to painting and reinstall them upon completion.
- Apply primers, sealers, paints, stains, or varnishes to interior and exterior surfaces, walls, ceilings, and trim using brushes, rollers, or spray equipment.
- Select, mix, and match pigments or dyes to achieve specific colour shades and consistency requirements.
- Apply decorative textures, wallpapers, or specialized finishes as directed by the layout or client specifications.
- Install drop cloths, masking tape, and protective plastic barriers to safeguard floors, furniture, and adjacent surfaces from drips or overspray.
- Safely erect and utilize ladders, scaffolding, and hoisting equipment to work on high or hard-to-reach areas.
- Update the supervisor on daily job progress and report any site or material issues promptly.
- Safely load, transport, and unload all painting equipment, chemical solutions, and materials to various job sites.
- Maintain a clean, secure workshop and workspace, clearing worksite debris and cleaning brushes or sprayers daily.
- Follow established safety protocols, including appropriate ventilation practices and proper handling of hazardous coatings.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
- Proven experience as a professional commercial or residential painter.
- Hands-on experience working with a wide range of paints, primers, solvents, and sealants.
- Excellent understanding of painting techniques, surface prepping methods, and coating application.
- Proficient in using manual and powered painting equipment (brushes, rollers, spray guns, sanders).
- Ability to read technical documents, material safety data sheets (MSDS), and construction plans.
- Good knowledge of English.
- Good understanding of basic math for area calculations and mixing ratios.
- Good physical condition, balance, and endurance for working at heights or on ladders.
- Capacity to work independently with minimal supervision and collaboratively in a team environment.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate professionally with clients and team members.
- Capacity to work flexible working hours as negotiated.

- To arrive at work on time and to advise Director of lateness or absences as soon as practicable

Position Specific indicators:
- Attend compulsory training sessions and complete all core skill training as set
- Submit correctly completed time sheets
Pay: $80,000.00 per year
