Primary objective
Assist the Farm Manager to undertake the daily farm activities with an emphasis on the day-to-day coordination of the
Douglas Daly Research Farm livestock and associated research trials.
Context statement
The Douglas Daly Research Farm provides facilities to conduct agricultural research; the most important aspect of this
position is to the maintenance and operations of farm facilities and equipment, assisting with livestock management and
data collection activities.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Operation and maintenance of station machinery and equipment.
2. Maintenance of station infrastructure including spraying, mowing, grounds and tree maintenance.
3. Undertake day-to-day coordination of the Douglas Daly Research Farm livestock and data collection activities.
4. Undertake accurate data recording activities and maintain farm records.
5. Assist the Farm Manager to support extension activities such as field days and demonstrations.
6. Assist in farm development activities including ground and infrastructure maintenance.
7. Be familiar with and adhere to safe work practices and willing to work outside of standard hours when required.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. An appropriate Qualification in Agriculture or a related field or considerable relevant experience.
2. Experience with farm operations, livestock handling, data collection, storage and management.
3. An understanding of animal husbandry and agricultural practices.
4. A strong ability to handle cows and calves in a low stress manner and experience with assisted calving.
5. Proven experience in grounds maintenance and the operation and maintenance of farm machinery.
6. Ability to work and reside as part of a team on the farm in a remote location and under difficult environmental conditions
with limited supervision.
7. Effective interpersonal, written and oral communication skills with an ability to interact with people of different
backgrounds.
8. A sound understanding of safe work practices around machinery, livestock, farming activities and workshops.
Desirable
1. Hold a current HR NT drivers licence and drive a 4WD vehicle.
2. Hold a current First Aid Certificate or have the ability to obtain and maintain this qualification.
3. Hold a ChemCert or SmarTrain Certificate or have the ability to obtain and maintain this qualification.
