Berkeley Vale Public School OOSH is a community-based, not-for-profit Before and After School Care and Vacation Care service located on the grounds of Berkeley Vale Public School.
We are seeking an experienced Casual OOSH Educator who is confident and capable of undertaking Responsible Person duties to join our supportive team.
This position would suit an experienced educator who enjoys working directly with school-aged children but is also comfortable taking on additional responsibility and providing leadership during shifts when required.
As a Responsible Person, you will work alongside our Director, Assistant Director and educator team to support the safe and effective day-to-day operation of the service. At times, you will be the Responsible Person in day-to-day charge when the Nominated Supervisor is not present.
Key responsibilities include:
- Supervising and actively engaging with children in a safe, positive and supportive environment
- Acting as the Responsible Person in day-to-day charge when required
- Supporting the smooth operation of Before School Care, After School Care and Vacation Care sessions
- Providing guidance and support to educators during shifts
- Ensuring appropriate supervision and educator-to-child ratios are maintained
- Supporting children's wellbeing, learning and development
- Building positive relationships with children, families, staff and the school community
- Responding appropriately to incidents, injuries, medical needs and behavioural concerns
- Ensuring child safe practices, policies and procedures are followed
- Supporting children with diverse needs and abilities
- Completing required documentation and communicating important information to service management
- Assisting with opening and/or closing procedures when rostered
- Supporting compliance with the National Quality Framework, service policies and relevant legislation
Essential requirements:
- Current NSW Working With Children Check
- Previous experience working in OOSH, early childhood education and care, or a similar children's service
- Demonstrated ability to confidently lead and support a team during a shift
- Ability and willingness to undertake Responsible Person duties
- Sound understanding of child safety, supervision and duty of care
- Current First Aid, CPR, Asthma and Anaphylaxis qualifications, or willingness to obtain
- Strong communication, organisation and teamwork skills
- Ability to remain calm and make appropriate decisions when managing incidents or challenging situations
- Reliability, flexibility and a positive approach to working with children and colleagues
Desirable:
- Certificate III or Diploma in Early Childhood Education and Care, School Age Education and Care, or a relevant qualification
- Previous experience as a Responsible Person, Nominated Supervisor, Coordinator or in a leadership position
- Experience supporting children with additional needs
- Knowledge of the National Quality Standard and Education and Care Services National Regulations
