Introduction:
We are seeking an experienced Senior Advisor Environmental Rehabilitation to join our Environment & Sustainability team and play a key role in delivering one of the site's most significant environmental priorities.
Description:
This is a unique opportunity to drive meaningful rehabilitation outcomes across both historical legacy disturbance and current mining operations, helping shape the long-term environmental legacy of the Woodie Woodie operation. The successful candidate will directly contribute to reducing long-term environmental liabilities, restoring landscapes and supporting sustainable mine closure outcomes.
Unlike many rehabilitation roles that focus solely on progressive rehabilitation, this position offers the opportunity to influence large-scale legacy rehabilitation projects, develop innovative landform solutions and deliver tangible environmental outcomes that will endure long after mining activities have ceased.
About the Role
Reporting to the Manager Environment & Sustainability, you will support the implementation of the site's rehabilitation, environmental compliance and mine closure strategy.
As the primary operational interface between ConsMin and the rehabilitation contractor, you will work closely with the contractor's Rehabilitation Supervisor to coordinate daily rehabilitation activities and ensure the successful delivery of rehabilitation programs across site.
A key focus of the role will be the planning and execution of rehabilitation programs targeting legacy disturbance areas, while also supporting the progressive rehabilitation of current mining operations. The role combines rehabilitation delivery, landform design, bulk earthworks planning, contractor coordination, drone-based monitoring and mine closure planning within a dynamic operational mining environment.
DesWik will be a key software platform utilised within this role, supporting rehabilitation design, landform modelling, Waste Rock Landform assessments, earthworks optimisation, volume calculations and material movement planning.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support implementation of the site's rehabilitation, environmental compliance and mine closure strategy.
- Coordinate and deliver the Life of Mine Rehabilitation Program.
- Drive rehabilitation outcomes across both legacy rehabilitation areas and current operational disturbances.
- Act as the primary day-to-day operational interface between ConsMin and the rehabilitation contractor.
- Work closely with the contractor's Rehabilitation Supervisor to coordinate daily rehabilitation activities and priorities.
- Coordinate rehabilitation activities with Mining, Survey, Environment and Operations teams.
- Monitor rehabilitation progress and contractor performance against agreed plans and objectives.
- Support the Manager Environment & Sustainability in monitoring rehabilitation performance against contractual obligations and budget requirements.
- Oversee rehabilitation earthworks and provide technical guidance on landform construction and reshaping activities.
- Design, assess and optimise Waste Rock Landforms, drainage structures and rehabilitation landforms.
- Utilise DesWik to undertake landform assessments, rehabilitation design, volume calculations and material movement analysis.
- Complete cut-and-fill assessments and bulk earthworks quantity calculations to support rehabilitation planning and execution.
- Integrate survey data, terrain models and UAV-derived datasets into rehabilitation planning and performance assessments.
- Operate drones and undertake aerial inspections to monitor rehabilitation progress, earthworks performance and landform stability.
- Coordinate rehabilitation monitoring, seed collection, storage and revegetation programs.
- Monitor rehabilitation performance against Mine Closure Plans, environmental approvals and rehabilitation completion criteria.
- Review contractor safety systems and ensure activities are undertaken in accordance with site safety standards.
- Prepare rehabilitation reports, technical assessments, forecasts and closure-related documentation.
- Identify rehabilitation risks, closure opportunities and continuous improvement initiatives.
About you
Essential:
- Degree in Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management, Environmental Engineering or a related discipline.
- Minimum 5 years' experience in mine rehabilitation, mine closure or environmental management within the mining industry.
- Strong understanding of Mine Closure Plans, rehabilitation principles and Western Australian environmental and mining legislation.
- Demonstrated experience delivering rehabilitation and closure programs in a mining environment.
- Proven experience working closely with rehabilitation and earthworks contractors.
- Experience designing and assessing rehabilitation landforms and Waste Rock Landforms.
- Advanced experience using DesWik for landform assessment, rehabilitation design, volume calculations and material movement analysis.
- Experience undertaking bulk earthworks quantity calculations and rehabilitation planning.
- Current Remote Pilot Licence (RePL) or equivalent CASA-accredited drone qualification.
- Experience operating drones for environmental monitoring, survey support and rehabilitation assessment.
- Strong stakeholder engagement, organisational and project management skills.
- Current C Class Driver's Licence.
Highly Desirable
- Mine survey experience and interpretation of survey data, digital terrain models and UAV-derived datasets.
- Exposure to mine planning and mine design within an operational mining environment.
- Practical experience in landform design, earthworks optimisation and closure earthworks planning.
- Experience with ArcGIS, QGIS, drone photogrammetry and terrain modelling.
- Experience developing rehabilitation completion criteria, landform performance assessments and closure performance measures.
