Reporting to the Education Manager Electrical, this role is responsible for the planning, delivery, assessment and continuous improvement of vocational and non-vocational education and/or fee-for-service programs across a variety of learning environments.
You will manage the student learning lifecycle from initial course enquiries to the implementation of individualised teaching through the use of flexible, inclusive and contemporary teaching strategies. The role also involves the design and development of high-quality educational resources, and the establishment and maintenance of effective partnerships with industry and key stakeholders.

What You'll Do
- Plan, prepare, teach and assess learning activities that meet learner needs
- Establish and maintain a safe, inclusive learning environment using diverse methods that empower and encourage student learning
- Implement Melbourne Polytechnic learning processes, including student participation, learning plans for students at risk and reasonable adjustments to meet individual learner needs
- Assist with educational pastoral care, student consultation and referral to appropriate support services
- Establish and maintain networks with industry, relevant VET bodies and other stakeholders
- Maintain accurate records of student attendance, progress and assessment in line with Melbourne Polytechnic policies
- Work within quality systems, prepare session plans and unit outlines, and participate in validation and moderation activities
- Participate in student entry level assessment, course selection interviews and orientation activities where applicable
- Participate in professional development to maintain educational and vocational currency
- Actively participate in staff meetings
- Appropriate vocational competency and/or qualifications together with relevant, recent and current industry knowledge, skills and experience in the Electrical discipline
- Demonstrated understanding of learning principles, teaching methodologies and a high standard of teaching practice, with a commitment to learner-centred teaching
- Well-developed teaching skills, including the ability to select and use a wide range of teaching and assessment strategies appropriate to diverse learner needs
- Proven capacity to plan, schedule and meet agreed deadlines, and work productively both independently and within a team
- High-level interpersonal skills and an exemplary professional approach, together with excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrated capacity to network, explore and develop partnerships to increase student engagement and opportunities during and post studies
- Excellent ICT skills to produce work for learners, support e-learning and report across a range of programs
- Demonstrated commitment to Occupational Health and Safety, Anti-Discrimination, Quality Assurance and Continuous Improvement
- Experience teaching or assessing in a VET environment
- Experience working with diverse learner cohorts
- Knowledge of current issues in vocational education and training, particularly as they relate to the areas taught within the Department
Qualifications & Mandatory Checks
Appointment to this position is subject to meeting the qualification requirements (where applicable) and the successful completion of all mandatory employment checks.
Teaching Qualifications
To be considered for this role, you must meet the qualification requirements under the Victorian TAFE Teaching Staff Agreement 2024 and relevant regulatory standards.
You will have:
- Relevant qualifications in your discipline area
- Recent and relevant industry and/or teaching experience
In addition, depending on the role:
- Vocational Education and Training (VET) roles:
Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE40122 or equivalent), or a diploma or higher qualification in adult or vocational education
- Non-Vocational Education roles (e.g. EAL, AMEP, SEE, Foundation, VCE):
A recognised teaching qualification appropriate to the program (e.g. postgraduate TESOL or equivalent), and demonstrated teaching capability through relevant experience
Applicants who can demonstrate equivalent teaching capability through a combination of qualifications and experience may also be considered.
