About Applied Engineering Services
Applied Engineering Services is a Griffith-based engineering, welding and fabrication business providing practical engineering solutions to clients across the Riverina and wider regional NSW. The business works across industries including food and beverage processing, wineries, agriculture, irrigation, building and general industrial operations.
About the Role
We are looking for a motivated Mechanical Engineer to become part of our growing engineering team.
The successful applicant will combine sound engineering knowledge with practical fabrication awareness to produce designs that are safe, functional, cost-effective and suitable for manufacture.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Converting client briefs, site measurements and operating requirements into practical mechanical design solutions for custom fabrication projects.
- Developing and verifying engineering design packages, including design calculations, equipment specifications, engineering models and technical documentation to support manufacture, installation and commissioning.
- Developing, analysing and optimising mechanical solutions for equipment such as conveyors, tanks, hoppers, pump stations, stainless-steel systems, machinery guards, platforms and process-related equipment.
- Carrying out engineering analyses, including strength, load, movement, pressure, flow and performance assessments, to verify that equipment designs are safe, reliable, compliant and fit for purpose.
- Selecting suitable materials, fittings, components and surface finishes based on hygiene, corrosion, wear, temperature, pressure and the intended working environment.
- Reviewing manufacturing, installation and operational requirements to ensure equipment can be safely manufactured, transported, installed, cleaned, maintained and operated throughout its service life.
- Establishing engineering requirements and acceptance criteria for welding, fabrication tolerances, installation clearances, testing, guarding and commissioning activities.
- Undertaking engineering investigations and design reviews of existing machinery and site installations to assess equipment performance, identify engineering issues and operational risks, and recommend practical upgrades, alterations, or replacement options to improve safety, reliability, and operational efficiency.
- Providing engineering guidance and technical interpretation to fabrication, installation and maintenance personnel regarding design intent, specifications and engineering requirements, while hands-on trade activities are undertaken by qualified tradespeople.
- Working with clients, suppliers, contractors and internal staff to resolve technical issues and keep engineering work aligned with project scope, safety requirements and delivery timeframes.
- Preparing calculation records, equipment documentation, technical reports, risk assessments and project files required for quality control and compliance.
- Qualifications and Skills
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or an equivalent recognised qualification.
- Minimum 3 years demonstrated experience in mechanical design, machine design or fabricated equipment design.
- Strong understanding of engineering calculations, mechanical design principles and manufacturing requirements.
- Ability to prepare and verify technical drawings, engineering models, specifications and bills of materials in support of mechanical design projects.
- Knowledge of steel, stainless steel and aluminium fabrication methods, welding processes and workshop manufacturing practices.
- Ability to select appropriate materials, components and finishes for industrial, food-processing, agricultural or process equipment applications.
- Familiarity with relevant Australian Standards, machinery safety principles, quality requirements and WHS obligations.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to provide practical engineering solutions in a fabrication and site installation environment.
- Effective communication skills and the ability to work with clients, tradespeople, suppliers and internal project staff.
- Experience with food-processing machinery, stainless steel equipment or hygienic process pipework will be highly regarded.
