Within Institutional Banking & Markets (IB&M), Structured Asset Finance (SAF) plays a critical role in enabling investment across transport, infrastructure, energy transition, supply chains and industrial sectors.
We are seeking an experienced Executive Director to lead our domestic origination and structuring capability, with a focus on delivering sustainable growth and working with a high-performing, disciplined team.
The opportunity
This is a senior leadership role at the centre of SAF’s growth agenda, responsible for driving origination across IB&M and large Business Bank clients while shaping how the function operates and scales. CommBank’s SAF team are recognised as leaders in the market, including our ability to take residual value risk in various assets.
You will lead a team originating, structuring and overseeing execution of complex asset-backed financing solutions, and play a critical role in strengthening the team’s operating model, capability and performance standards.
Responsibilities include:
Lead the development and execution of SAF’s origination strategy across priority sectors
Drive pipeline creation, deal execution and sustainable portfolio growth
Build and maintain senior relationships with clients, sponsors, private capital providers and advisors
Oversee the structuring and delivery of complex asset-backed financing solutions end-to-end
Partner across IB&M Client Coverage, Business Bank, Risk, Treasury and other Product teams to deliver integrated “One Bank” outcomes
A key focus of the role will be to:
Introduce greater structure and discipline into origination and opportunity execution
Establish clear deal allocation frameworks , ensuring opportunities are matched to the right specialists
Build strong operating rhythms, funnel management and pipeline visibility
Strengthen collaboration with IB&M Client Coverage and Business Bank stakeholders
Uplift team capability through coaching, mentoring and knowledge transfer , leveraging deep sector and product expertise
Inspire, coach and develop a high-performing team, embedding clear performance expectations and accountability
Ensure strong governance, risk management and alignment to the Bank’s risk appetite
Contribute to SAF and Capital Structuring’s broader strategy, product evolution and market positioning
What you bring
Extensive experience in structured or asset-based finance, institutional banking, or related disciplines
Proven track record of originating and executing complex financing transactions
Strong technical expertise across structuring, credit, asset risk, capital and documentation
Demonstrated leadership experience with a focus on team development, coaching and performance uplift
Ability to bring clarity, structure and discipline to a growing or evolving team environment
Strong stakeholder engagement and relationship management capability across complex organisations
