ABOUT THE POSITION:
This role is responsible for creating a dynamic, fun and safe environment for children and families within the Children's Galleries, interactive exhibitions and other Museum spaces. You will support programmed activities such as storytelling, play-based sessions and events (including parties and sleepovers), alongside routine ticketing and visitor support duties. We are looking for someone who brings enthusiasm, creativity and a genuine passion for engaging children in cultural and family-focused environments.
Some of the key duties include:
- Delivering play-based and storytelling sessions that spark imagination and curiosity.
- Hosting children's events such as parties, after-hours events and sleepovers, ensuring a safe and engaging environment.
- Supporting hands-on experiences including art, sensory play and guided exploration in the galleries.
- Conducting ticketing operations including sales, scanning, upselling and troubleshooting.
- Maintaining a clean, welcoming and safe space for children and families, and complying with all safety protocols.
The successful applicant will have:
- Experience working with children in a family-friendly environment such as education, childcare or customer service.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage with children and families.
- Proven ability to facilitate engaging activities and manage groups of children.
- A creative and adaptable approach, with the ability to modify activities as needed.
- Demonstrated commitment to child safety and providing inclusive experiences.
- A current Working with Children Check and National Police Check (cost to be met by the successful candidate). Current First Aid and CPR certification, and experience hosting children's events, are desirable.
OTHER INFORMATION
This is a fixed term, irregular part-time position (0.66 FTE) for a period of two years. The salary on offer is Grade 2, Value Range 1 - $62,104 per annum, pro rata + 12% Superannuation.
The position works to a roster that regularly includes weekends and public holidays, with occasional evening shifts. Museums Victoria operates from five locations and employees may be required to work from any of these.
