- we work together for success,
- we are accountable for our actions,
- we innovate for the future, and
- we celebrate diversity and inclusion.
If you share our vision and values, please consider this exciting career opportunity to join our growing team in Brisbane.
You’re unique, and we value that.
Best Practice Software is looking for a technically strong Product Owner to embed within our Cloud Platforms team. This isn’t a traditional Product Owner role, we need someone who understands infrastructure, speaks the language of business infrastructure and cloud engineering, and can bridge the gap between technical delivery and product outcomes.
You’ll own the backlog and delivery priorities for a team building and operating the cloud platform that underpins our Medical Software solutions, working closely with developers, architects, and stakeholders to ensure the right things get built in the right order, with clarity and technical rigour. You know enough to challenge a technical approach, evaluate trade-offs, and write a story that a developer can actually work from.
As a Product Owner (Technical), we’ll call on your unique talents, skills, expertise, and experience. You’ll be responsible for:
Backlog Ownership & Prioritisation
- Own and manage the Cloud Platforms backlog, ensuring it is well-refined, technically detailed, and always aligned to delivery priorities.
- Translate platform strategy, architectural decisions, and stakeholder needs into clear, actionable user stories and acceptance criteria.
- Prioritise ruthlessly, balancing feature delivery, platform reliability, technical debt, and compliance obligations.
- Make trade-off decisions with confidence, grounded in both technical understanding and business context.
Technical Engagement & Platform Understanding
- Engage deeply with development and infrastructure discussions, understanding enough to contribute meaningfully, challenge where needed, and advocate for the right outcomes.
- Work alongside architects and developers to understand cloud platform design, infrastructure dependencies, and delivery constraints.
- Assess and validate that platform tooling and infrastructure choices are fit for purpose, meeting internal standards, regulatory requirements, and customer expectations.
- Participate in technical discovery, spike work, and architectural reviews as an active contributor.
Delivery & Infrastructure Outcomes
- Drive delivery of platform capabilities that directly enable our products, scalability, reliability, security, and performance.
- Own platform release planning and coordinate with product and operations teams on readiness.
- Ensure infrastructure and DevOps work is embedded into delivery cycles, not siloed or deferred.
- Monitor platform health metrics and feed insights back into the prioritisation process.
Stakeholder Alignment & Communication
- Act as the primary point of contact between the Cloud Platforms team and internal stakeholders, translating technical progress into business-readable outcomes.
- Collaborate with compliance, security, and clinical stakeholders to ensure platform delivery meets Australian healthcare regulatory standards.
- Communicate clearly and proactively on risks, dependencies, and delivery status.
AI experience & mindset
We expect our Cloud Platforms Product Owner to have a working understanding of where AI fits into platform and infrastructure delivery, both as a tool that changes how the team works, and potentially as a capability the platform needs to support.
- Experience using AI tooling to improve Product Owner workflows, backlog refinement, documentation, acceptance criteria generation, or sprint reporting.
- Familiarity with AI-assisted development practices used by development teams, and how to account for them in planning and estimation.
- Understanding of how AI/ML workloads may place specific infrastructure demands on cloud platforms, compute, storage, networking, and cost implications.
- Awareness of AI governance and risk considerations in regulated healthcare software environments.
We believe our ideal applicant will demonstrate the following attributes:
- Solid technical background, you’ve worked in or alongside software developers, cloud infrastructure, or Business Infrastructure teams and know how they operate.
- Proven experience as a Product Owner or similar role on a technical or platform-focused team.
- Strong understanding of cloud platforms, AWS, Azure, or GCP and modern infrastructure patterns (containers, Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines).
- Ability to write technically detailed, unambiguous stories that developers can work from without constant clarification.
- Comfortable with the details of a technical spike as well as a stakeholder briefing.
- Experience working within Agile delivery teams, Scrum, Kanban, or scaled frameworks
- Strong communication and facilitation skills across technical and non-technical audiences.
