The Role
What You’ll Do As a Mid Level UI Artist, you will design, build, and implement user interface features for mobile games.
You will work closely with design, engineering, and production teams to turn game requirements into clear, attractive, and easy to use player experiences. You will take ownership of assigned UI features, from early concepts and layouts through to final implementation in Unity.
This role is onsite in Auckland, NZ. This role does not include Visa support. It does support relocation from within Australia or NZ.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Designing UI screens, layouts, icons, and visual assets
- Creating clear and engaging UI flows based on game design requirements
- Implementing UI screens, assets, and animations in Unity
- Maintaining strong visual hierarchy, readability, and consistency
- Adapting UI across different mobile devices, screen sizes, and aspect ratios
- Taking assigned UI features from concept through to final in game delivery
- Collaborating with artists, designers, programmers, and producers
- Responding to feedback and improving UI based on usability and player needs
- Creating supporting artwork, backgrounds, event assets, and promotional visuals
- Balancing visual quality with technical and production requirements
- Contributing ideas that improve UI workflows, standards, and overall quality
Key Skills & Traits
Essential
- Professional experience creating UI for games or interactive products
- A portfolio showing strong UI design, layout, and interface work
- Strong graphic design skills, including composition, typography, and visual hierarchy
- Illustrative skills and the ability to create stylised icons and UI assets
- Experience using Adobe Creative Suite, particularly Photoshop, or similar tools
- Understanding of UI and UX principles and how they apply to games
- Ability to receive feedback and turn it into practical improvements
- Strong communication skills and a collaborative approach
- Ability to manage assigned tasks and deliver polished work
- A genuine interest in games, particularly mobile games
Desirable
- Around three or more years of experience in game development
- Experience working on a shipped game title
- Experience implementing UI assets or animation in Unity
- Experience creating interfaces for mobile devices
- Understanding of technical limitations and performance considerations
- Experience working in a live game or fast paced production environment
- Experience creating promotional, event, or marketing artwork
