Location: Red Hill, Brisbane
Employment type: Full-time, part-time or casual
Reports to: Business Owner / Kitchen Manager
About the Role
We are looking for a reliable, skilled and ambitious Cook to join our shared kitchen in Red Hill, operating two distinct hospitality brands from one location:
- Loverboy Café – a fun, modern café specialising in crêpes, waffles, brunch dishes and desserts.
- Red Hill Seafood – a quality-focused seafood takeaway offering freshly prepared fish, chips and related menu items.
This is a hands-on role for someone with strong preparation and organisational skills who can work efficiently across both menus while maintaining each brand’s individual standards. The right person will be professional, committed, hardworking, punctual and exceptionally clean.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare, cook and present menu items consistently according to recipes and brand standards.
- Complete daily food preparation efficiently and accurately for both brands.
- Organise prep to support busy service periods and minimise delays.
- Work confidently across café, dessert and seafood menus.
- Maintain clear separation between the two brands’ ingredients, preparation areas and workflows.
- Follow strict food safety, allergen-management and cross-contamination procedures.
- Monitor portion sizes, presentation, quality and freshness.
- Label, date, rotate and store all food correctly.
- Assist with stock control, ordering, receiving deliveries and reporting shortages.
- Reduce food waste through careful preparation and stock management.
- Maintain a clean, sanitised and well-organised kitchen throughout every shift.
- Complete opening, closing and cleaning duties thoroughly.
- Care for kitchen equipment and promptly report maintenance issues.
- Work calmly and professionally during busy periods.
- Communicate respectfully with owners, front-of-house staff and other kitchen team members.
- Help train junior or casual team members when required.
- Contribute ideas for improving kitchen systems, menu execution and efficiency.
- Support either brand as operational needs change.
About You
You will be someone who is:
- Professional and takes pride in the quality of their work.
- Punctual, dependable and committed to scheduled shifts.
- Hardworking and willing to contribute wherever needed.
- Clean, organised and disciplined about food safety.
- Strong in food preparation, time management and multitasking.
- Able to follow recipes, portion guides and established procedures.
- Calm and productive during busy service periods.
- Comfortable taking responsibility and working independently.
- A positive team member who communicates clearly and respectfully.
- Flexible and willing to learn the requirements of two different brands.
- Ambitious and interested in growing with the businesses.
- Respectful of confidential recipes, systems and business information.
Experience and Requirements
- Previous experience as a cook, café cook, kitchen hand with cooking responsibilities, or similar hospitality position.
- Strong food preparation and basic commercial cooking skills.
- Knowledge of safe food handling, cleaning and storage procedures.
- Ability to manage several orders and preparation tasks simultaneously.
- Availability to work a flexible roster, including evenings and weekends.
- A Food Safety Supervisor certificate is desirable, or willingness to obtain one.
- Experience with seafood, fryers, crêpes, waffles, brunch or dessert preparation is advantageous but not essential.
- Formal cookery qualifications are desirable but practical ability, reliability and attitude will also be highly valued.
Performance Expectations
Success in this position will be measured by:
- Consistent food quality, portioning and presentation.
- Timely and accurate preparation of orders.
- Reliable attendance and punctuality.
- High standards of cleanliness and food safety.
- Effective preparation for service periods.
- Appropriate separation and organisation of both brands.
- Low food waste and responsible stock handling.
- Positive teamwork, communication and willingness to improve.
