Step into one of the Shire’s leading boutique butcheries. Farmgate to Plate is looking for an experienced Cook or Chef to run our production kitchen and lead the preparation of our house-made meals, sauces, condiments and catering orders.

The Role
We’re looking for a proactive, professional and detail-driven Production Chef to manage the kitchen at our Farmgate to Plate Burraneer Bay store.
Reporting directly to the Store Manager, you’ll take responsibility for the preparation and production of house-made meals, sauces, condiments and catering orders. You’ll manage the kitchen’s daily workflow while maintaining consistency, presentation, food safety and organisation.
You’ll work closely with our Store Manager, butchers and front-of-house team in an environment where fresh, seasonal and house-made produce is the focus and an exceptional customer experience is always the priority.
This is a daytime position, with the possibility of supporting our off-site farmers markets and catering activities. Weekend availability is preferred.
Key Responsibilities
- Production Planning: Plan and manage the daily and weekly production of meals, sauces, condiments and catering orders.
- Food Preparation: Prepare, cook, portion and package products to established recipes and presentation standards.
- Catering: Coordinate and prepare catering orders accurately, efficiently and on time.
- Menu Development: Work with management to develop seasonal meals, new products and catering options.
- Quality Control: Maintain consistency in flavour, portioning, freshness, presentation and packaging.
- Kitchen Management: Organise production schedules, preparation lists and kitchen workflows.
- Stock Control: Monitor ingredient levels and assist with ordering, receiving, rotation and storage.
- Cost and Waste Management: Maintain appropriate portion sizes, monitor yields and minimise food waste.
- Team Coordination: Work closely with the butchery and front-of-house teams to meet production and customer requirements.
- Food Safety: Maintain food-safety records and uphold all hygiene, sanitation, allergen and safe food-handling requirements.
- Cleanliness: Keep the kitchen, equipment, cool rooms and storage areas clean, organised and ready for production.
- Equipment: Use kitchen equipment safely and report any maintenance or safety concerns promptly.
What You’ll Bring
- The Experience: Proven experience as a Cook, Chef or Production Chef in a commercial kitchen.
- The Qualification: Completed commercial cookery or equivalent culinary qualifications.
- The Skills: Strong food preparation, cooking, portioning and presentation skills.
- The Palate: An excellent understanding of flavour, seasoning and high-quality food.
- The Organisation: The ability to independently manage production schedules, preparation lists and catering deadlines.
- The Standards: A consistent approach to quality, food safety, hygiene and kitchen organisation.
- The Teamwork: The ability to collaborate with management, butchers and front-of-house team members.
- The Communication: Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- The Attitude: A reliable, energetic and solutions-focused approach to work.
- The Availability: Flexibility to work across a 5 day daytime roster, including one weekend day.
Hours and Conditions
This role is based at Farmgate to Plate, Burraneer Bay and operates across daytime shifts only.
A full-time position is available, with part-time arrangements considered for the right candidate. Weekend work and occasional support at off-site farmers markets may be required.
