Primary objective
Coordinate daily functions for the Dental Assisting and Sterilisation Technician streams for Oral Health Service Central
Australia (OHSCA).
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Provide supervision, orientation, induction and support for Dental Assistants, trainee Dental Assistants and Sterilisation
Technicians including recruitment activities under the direction of the Principal Dental Assistant (PDA).
2. Contribute to the development and oversee implementation of infection control and AS/NZS 5369 sterilisation
standards.
3. Undertake all purchasing of clinical stock, instruments, equipment, materials and medicaments, according to procurement
guidelines and contractual requirements of OHSCA.
4. Prepare rosters for urban and school based oral health service programs.
5. Actively participate in Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI), staff development programs and health promotion
activities.
6. Under the direction of the PDA, conduct regular clinical audits as per audit schedule to monitor and report workplace
standards for accreditation purposes.
7. Provide chair side assistance for oral health practitioners or undertake duties within the Sterilisation Department when
required.
8. Foster a positive workplace culture through exemplary leadership practices and role modelling behaviour.
9. Follow defined service quality standards, Work Health and Safety policies and procedures relating to the work being
undertaking in order to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Minimum Certificate III in Dental Assisting and relevant experience working as a dental assistant.
2. Demonstrated reliability, self-motivation, initiative and the ability to work effectively independently or as part of a
multidisciplinary team.
3. High level of time management and organisational skills and the ability to prioritise competing requirements and work
effectively under pressure with frequently changing priorities.
4. Highly developed interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively, maintain confidentiality and ability to
interact effectively with people from diverse cultures.
5. Extensive experience in providing orientation, induction, supervising and performance management of staff.
6. Well-developed skills and experience in a range of computer software packages and mainframe applications.
7. Sound knowledge of financial and human resource procedures and processes.
