About the Opportunity
Due to continued growth, Crawford's CRD division is seeking an experienced Senior Building Consultant to join our Melbourne team.
CRD provides specialist Building Consultancy, Quantity Surveying and Engineering services to the insurance industry. Our consultants are trusted experts who investigate building failures, assess complex property damage, determine causation, and provide practical remediation solutions to insurers, legal professionals, builders and property owners.
This position offers the opportunity to combine hands-on technical consulting with leadership responsibilities. You will manage your own portfolio of matters while providing technical guidance, mentoring junior consultants, conducting peer reviews and supporting quality outcomes across the team.
Working across residential, commercial and industrial properties, you will undertake forensic investigations, analyse building failures, prepare detailed reports, develop scopes of works and cost estimates, and manage projects through to completion.
About You
The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate:

Extensive experience within building consultancy, construction, insurance, building surveying or related disciplines

Strong knowledge of the National Construction Code (NCC), Building Code of Australia and relevant Australian Standards

Proven experience investigating complex building failures and property damage

Strong technical report writing and analytical skills

Experience managing multiple projects and stakeholders simultaneously

Excellent communication and client relationship skills

A proactive, solutions-focused approach to problem solving
-
High attention to detail and commitment to quality outcomes

Previous experience mentoring, coaching or supporting junior team members
-
Ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team environment
Key Requirements

Diploma, Degree or tertiary qualification in Building, Construction or related discipline
-
Trade qualification highly regarded
-
Minimum 5 years' experience in a similar building consultancy, construction or insurance-related role
-
Strong understanding of building systems, construction methods and repair methodologies

Experience with:

Complex causation investigations

Large loss and litigated claims

Scope development and cost estimating

Project management
-
Advanced report writing and documentation skills

Ability to review and validate technical findings and conclusions

Current Australian Driver's Licence
Key Responsibilities

Conduct investigations across residential, commercial and industrial properties
