About the opportunity
Join Australia Post's collaborative in-house legal team, where you'll act as a trusted adviser to the business and its subsidiaries. Reporting to the Deputy General Counsel, you will provide legal advice to stakeholders across the Australia Post group of companies, partnering with the business on a diverse range of commercial, legal and regulatory matters. This is an exciting opportunity to influence business outcomes, manage legal risk and support strategic initiatives that contribute to Australia Post's ongoing success.
You’ll also
- Provide commercially focused legal advice that supports business objectives while appropriately identifying and managing legal and regulatory risks.
- Draft, review and negotiate a broad range of commercial agreements, ensuring risks are allocated in line with Australia Post's risk appetite and governance requirements.
- Partner with stakeholders across the business to identify legal issues in existing operations and new initiatives, delivering practical and strategic solutions.
- Support the development and maintenance of legal documentation, toolkits, policies and compliance programs to strengthen governance and foster a culture of compliance.
- Monitor emerging legal and regulatory developments, providing proactive guidance to help the business anticipate change and stay ahead of evolving requirements.
About you
You're a commercially minded and proactive lawyer who enjoys building trusted relationships and partnering with stakeholders to solve complex business challenges. Comfortable balancing risk with opportunity, you're a collaborative team player who brings sound judgement, strong communication skills and a pragmatic approach to delivering legal solutions that support business success.
You’ll also have
- A current unrestricted Australian practising certificate and at post-admission experience in commercial law, gained within a top or mid-tier law firm and/or an in-house legal environment.
- Proven experience providing commercially focused legal advice across a broad range of legal, regulatory and business matters, with the ability to balance legal risk and commercial outcomes.
- Strong contract drafting, negotiation and stakeholder management skills, with a demonstrated ability to influence and build credibility with senior leaders and business partners.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving and decision-making capabilities, including experience managing complex matters, competing priorities and escalations.
- Experience in one or more of dispute resolution, franchise law, or competition and consumer law will be highly regarded, together with experience managing external legal advisers.
