Disability Support Workers provide whole of participant support, in order to empower them to lead fulfilling lives according to their own choices. Providing quality, practical, efficient and effective services to participants includes but is not limited to domestic assistance, personal care assistance, respite care, and daily living skills through center based, community and individual support. Disability Support Workers provide person centred active support to clients with a disability to maintain their wellbeing, explore opportunities and supports the aims and goals of the client.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
To achieve a high standard of customer service, working with participants in group and on a one-to-one basis that have been agreed for the participant.
Service Delivery · Provide individual and group-based support and empower people with disabilities tohelp them achieve their goals through skill development and meaningful engagement in activities of their choice · Use a strengths-based, person-centred approach when working with all participants with disabilities,to promote independence and maximise choice and control · Undertake or assist with the delivery of a range of individual/group-based activities, in community, in home, in venues or at Menzies Support Services sites · Support participants to establish and build on connections, networks and relationships that extend beyond the service system (e.g. friends, community groups, neighbours) in alignment with individual goals
· Develop and maintain safe, effective and professional relationships with participants, use active listening to develop trust, and provide appropriate role modelling
· If required, provide personal care, support and assistance for participants, including those withcomplex needs, in a safe and sensitive manner including toileting, communication, eating anddrinking, behaviour support, and transport
· Follow individual and program plans, support and behavior plans for a person with a disability in consultation with the participant and their family or carers.
· Apply procedural guidelines, policies and standards as directed
· Work collaboratively with colleagues to ensure continuity of care and provision of safe and effective services
· Uphold Menzies Values, encourage and support others to do so, and take appropriate
action if breaches of the Values are observed
Ensure timely and accurate records of all service delivery activities are kept, using the approved client Information management system
· Maintain privacy and confidentiality relating to participants, colleagues and the Organisation
· Commit to adhering to organisational Work Health and Safety policies and legislation
· Ensure a safe working environment for yourself, your colleagues and members of the public
· Ensure an understanding of individual responsibility for participant safety, quality and risk and adhere
to the relevant policies, procedures and guidelines.
· To undertake professional development activities where appropriate in order to upskill and maintain currency in practice
· Successfully undertake mandatory training and associated policy acknowledgement in the timelines required
· Advise line management of the changing needs of clients to ensure a culture of excellence in the development and delivery of services is continually achieved
· Be an effective role model for clients, e.g. maintaining high personal standards in respect of personal appearance, presentation and social behaviour
· Demonstrate behaviors that support organisational values and a positive workplace culture
Pay: From $43.23 per hour
