About the Business
Top Group provides accounting and financial administration services to businesses across Australia, including bookkeeping, payroll, BAS and GST reporting, accounts payable and receivable management, bank reconciliations and cloud-based accounting support.
We are seeking an experienced Accountant (General) to join our team in South Yarra. The successful candidate will be responsible for financial reporting, taxation and regulatory compliance, budgeting, financial analysis and maintaining effective accounting systems and internal controls.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in developing and implementing accounting and budgetary policies and procedures to support effective financial management and compliance with applicable accounting standards.
- Prepare and analyse monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements, management accounts and financial reports for management and other relevant stakeholders.
- Examine operating costs, revenue and expenditure and provide analysis and recommendations to improve financial performance, budgeting and cost control.
- Prepare budgets, forecasts and cash-flow projections and analyse actual financial performance against budgets and forecasts.
- Prepare and review BAS, GST, taxation calculations and supporting documentation, and assist in meeting relevant Australian taxation and statutory obligations.
- Conduct financial investigations and prepare reports on financial performance, business transactions, financial risks and other matters requiring accounting analysis.
- Provide financial and taxation advice regarding business operations, financial structures and commercial decisions.
- Monitor cash flow, working capital and financial risks and recommend appropriate strategies to support the financial stability of the business.
- Liaise with external accountants, auditors, financial institutions and other professional advisers as required.
- Maintain accurate accounting records and ensure financial information complies with relevant statutory and reporting requirements.
- Develop, review and maintain internal control procedures, reconciliations and financial reporting processes to safeguard the accuracy and integrity of financial information.
- Implement, maintain and improve accounting and financial systems, including cloud-based accounting platforms, to improve reporting accuracy and operational efficiency.
- Prepare financial analysis, KPI reports and other management information to assist management with operational and strategic decision-making.
Qualifications and Experience
The successful candidate will ideally have:
- A bachelor’s degree or higher qualification in Accounting, Commerce, Finance or a closely related discipline.
- A minimum of 2 years of relevant professional accounting experience, including financial reporting, budgeting, taxation compliance and financial analysis.
- Strong knowledge of Australian accounting and taxation requirements.
- Experience preparing financial statements, management accounts, budgets, forecasts and financial analysis.
- Sound understanding of BAS, GST and other Australian taxation compliance requirements.
- Experience with accounting software and cloud-based financial systems.
- Experience with MYOB, Xero or similar accounting platforms will be highly regarded.
- Strong Microsoft Excel and financial analysis skills.
- Strong analytical, organisational and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- CPA, CA, ACCA or another recognised professional accounting qualification would be highly regarded.
