If you live in Australia or New Zealand, you’ve likely heard of AMP. But at a time when society is changing, we are too. We’re now a nimbler business with new leadership and thinking.
For us, these are exciting times. There’s a real potential for big thinkers to help us redefine what financial services could be. And turn our legacy into something even more positive and powerful for the future.
Help people create their tomorrow, while you create yours
We help people with their banking, super, retirement and finances. Through upturns, downturns, recessions, and major life transitions. Every day, we help people see and make more of their financial potential, so that they can create their tomorrow. And we’ve been doing it for over 170 years.
If we do our job well, we genuinely add to the prosperity of our country and its people.
The Lead - Structuring & Modelling is a specialist quantitative role responsible for the design and evolution of equity protection product structures and the modelling approaches that underpin them. Operating across the full product lifecycle, the role translates business and client objectives into robust, implementable structures supported by rigorous quantitative analysis.
Working at the intersection of product design, pricing, hedging and risk, the role ensures models, methodologies and tools remain fit-for-purpose, scalable and aligned to AMP’s risk appetite. It plays a critical role in both developing new product features and enhancing existing structures, balancing innovation with practical implementation.
As part of the MRMR team, the role provides deep technical expertise and hands-on modelling capability, partnering closely with stakeholders to strengthen quantitative frameworks, support informed decision-making, and continuously improve modelling approaches to maintain the competitiveness of AMP’s retirement and equity protection solutions
How will you make an impact
Product Structuring & Design
- Translate business and client objectives into implementable quantitative product specifications, including payoff structures, optionality, capital treatment and risk/return profiles.
- Design and enhance product structures, ensuring efficient pricing, hedging and risk management.
- Assess hedging feasibility, including hedge design options, sensitivities and residual risks.
- Perform scenario analysis and stochastic modelling to evaluate hedging outcomes and structural alternatives.
- Produce product design papers and quantitative documentation to support governance and approvals.
Quantitative Engineering & Model Development
- Develop, maintain and enhance quantitative models, including prototype models and extensions to existing MRMR frameworks.
- Apply modelling judgement across stochastic models, simulation techniques and valuation tools.
- Support model transition into production environments in collaboration with downstream teams.
- Provide input on model robustness, limitations, performance and appropriate use.
Quantitative Research & Innovation
- Conduct applied research into stochastic techniques, calibration methodologies and numerical methods linked to product design, pricing and risk outcomes.
- Evolve simulation approaches and modelling methodologies where they deliver practical value.
- Contribute to technical standards, model documentation and knowledge sharing.
Specialist Technical Contribution
- Provide quantitative review and technical challenge across pricing, hedging and risk outputs.
- Review assumptions, methodologies and model outputs, including GMxB liabilities and related analytics.
- Contribute to technical papers, committee submissions and recommendations.
- Mentor team members across modelling frameworks, structuring approaches and quantitative techniques.
Risk
- Ensure adherence to AMP policies, standards and risk management frameworks.
- Promote strong risk culture through effective challenge and escalation.
Support the 1st line control environment in collaboration with Risk teams and external counsel.
-
What you will bring to the role
- Ideally at least 6 -10 years’ experience in quantitative roles related to product structuring, valuation, risk management, ALM or derivatives modelling.
- Demonstrated experience designing or enhancing quantitative models used to support real ‑ world valuation, and/or risk decisions.
- Solid grounding in stochastic modelling, numerical methods and simulation techniques.
- Proven ability to work with existing modelling frameworks and tools, applying judgement to extend, adapt or refine them as required.
Advanced programming capability in C++, Python or MATLAB or similar languages
-
Your experience with structured or guaranteed investment products and exposure to both research ‑ oriented and production ‑ oriented modelling environments would be well regarded.
Who you are
You bring technical judgement, with the ability to balance innovation and practicality to deliver solutions that are robust, understandable and implementable. You are confident assessing trade‑offs between model complexity, accuracy and operational usability, ensuring outcomes are fit‑for‑purpose. You operate effectively within established governance frameworks, while contributing to their continuous improvement and strengthening overall model and risk discipline
You are a collaborative and thoughtful professional who communicates complex quantitative concepts clearly to both technical and non‑technical stakeholders. You support others through knowledge sharing and mentoring and are comfortable working in ambiguous and exploratory problem spaces, using structured thinking and sound judgement to navigate complexity and deliver outcomes
