Job Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and reliable Medical Laboratory Technician to join our laboratory team. In this role, you will perform routine and specialised laboratory tests on patient specimens to support the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease. The successful candidate will operate laboratory equipment, maintain quality standards, and ensure accurate and timely reporting of results while adhering to all laboratory safety and regulatory requirements.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Receive, label, process, and prepare patient specimens for analysis.
- Perform routine and specialised laboratory tests according to established procedures.
- Operate, calibrate, troubleshoot, and maintain laboratory instruments and equipment.
- Analyse test results and ensure accuracy before reporting findings.
- Maintain accurate laboratory records and documentation.
- Follow quality assurance, infection control, and workplace health and safety protocols.
- Monitor inventory levels and assist with ordering laboratory supplies.
- Identify and report equipment malfunctions or quality concerns.
- Work collaboratively with pathologists, scientists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals.
- Maintain confidentiality of patient information and comply with relevant privacy legislation.
Requirements
- Certificate IV, Diploma, or Bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Technology, Medical Laboratory Science, or a related field.
- Previous laboratory experience is preferred.
- Knowledge of laboratory techniques, quality control, and laboratory information systems.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Understanding of laboratory safety standards and infection control procedures.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in a clinical pathology or diagnostic laboratory.
- Familiarity with automated laboratory analysers.
- Knowledge of accreditation standards and quality management systems.
Work Schedule
- Full-time or part-time positions available.
- May require shift work, weekends, public holidays, and participation in an on-call roster, depending on operational requirements.
