SAP Test Lead – Job Description
Role Overview
An SAP Test Lead is responsible for planning, managing, and executing testing activities for SAP implementations, upgrades, and support projects. They ensure that SAP solutions meet business requirements, quality standards, and performance expectations before deployment.
Key Responsibilities
1. Test Planning & Strategy
Define overall test strategy, approach, and scope
Prepare test plans, test schedules, and resource allocation
Identify risks and mitigation strategies
2. Test Management
Lead and coordinate testing activities across teams
Manage SIT (System Integration Testing), UAT (User Acceptance Testing), and Regression Testing
Track test progress, defects, and closure status
3. Test Case Design & Execution
Review and approve test scenarios, test cases, and test scripts
Ensure full coverage of business processes (e.g., FI, MM, SD, HCM)
Support execution for critical test cycles
4. Defect Management
Track defects using tools like JIRA, HP ALM, Azure DevOps
Ensure proper classification, prioritization, and resolution of issues
Work with functional and technical teams to resolve defects
5. Stakeholder Coordination
Coordinate with business users, SAP functional consultants, developers
Conduct status meetings and provide test progress reports
Communicate risks, blockers, and release readiness
6. Test Automation (Optional but Preferred)
Drive test automation initiatives using tools like:
SAP TAO, Tricentis Tosca, Selenium
Improve testing efficiency and coverage
7. Quality Assurance & Compliance
Ensure adherence to testing standards, methodologies, and best practices
Maintain documentation for audit requirements
Ensure quality gates before production deployment
Required Skills
Technical Skills
Strong understanding of SAP modules (FI, CO, MM, SD, etc.)
Experience in SAP testing methodologies (SIT, UAT, Regression)
Knowledge of testing tools (JIRA, HP ALM, TestRail)
Understanding of SAP landscapes and business processes
Basic understanding of ABAP or debugging (optional)
