St Johns Park High School is a proud comprehensive school of 895 students, where more than 90% of students are from a language background other than English. The school has a strong reputation as a provider of quality educational services and outcomes for a diverse community, including 17 students who identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander. It includes a growing Special Education unit with seven designated classes for students with mild to moderate intellectual disability and autism. The school has a highly motivated staff to support students’ academic, social and personal growth through a broad, relevant and innovative curriculum including VET pathways, High Potential and Gifted Education programs, Accelerated Mathematics and authentic Project Based Learning. The school is also well known in the community for its external partnerships with partner primary schools, agencies and the business community, strong student leadership programs and values driven wellbeing initiatives through Positive Behaviour for Learning. Our teachers provide a quality learning environment for students that draws on research-informed pedagogy. Approval to teach English (secondary) and English as a Second Language or currently completing or currently enrolled in an approved post graduate qualification for teaching English as a Second Language (secondary) as recognised by the NSW Department of Education.
Approval to teach English 7-12.
Demonstrated capacity to address the wellbeing needs of students from non-English speaking backgrounds, particularly new arrivals.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills that build positive relationships with students, staff and the school community.
An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
