About the role
This role leads Council’s enterprise risk function supporting Council achieve its strategic goals through effective risk, insurance and safety management, ensuring strong governance and a proactive approach to workplace safety and wellbeing. It drives a proactive risk and safety culture through risk management frameworks, audits, business continuity planning, psychological safety initiatives and workplace health and safety programs.
- Lead and coordinate Council’s risk management framework, risk register, internal audits and Audit & Risk Committee activities.
- Support OHS compliance, workplace safety programs, incident investigations, training and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Manage Council’s insurance portfolio, claims, renewals, legal matters and risk-related budgeting.
- Provide strategic reporting, business continuity support and workforce capability development in risk and safety management.
Support the development of & lead the implementation of Council's Psychological Safety approach including a Mentally Healthy Workplace Framework and Psychosocial Hazard Risk Management Procedure and Assessment tool.

About you
You are a proactive and collaborative professional with experience in risk, governance, workplace safety or a related field, and a passion for building a culture of continuous improvement. You combine strong analytical and communication skills with the ability to influence stakeholders, manage competing priorities and deliver practical solutions that support organisational success.
- Demonstrated experience in risk management, governance, workplace safety, performance reporting or a related discipline, ideally within local government or the public sector.
- Strong knowledge of risk management principles, including psychosocial hazard risk management, relevant legislation and governance frameworks, with the ability to interpret and apply complex requirements.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience preparing reports, policies and briefings and engaging effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders.
Highly organised and self-motivated, with strong project management, problem-solving and relationship-building skills; experience managing insurance portfolios is desirable.
