About the role
JS-choice is seeking experienced, calm and compassionate female Disability Support Workers to provide 1:1 assistance to a three-year-old child with complex physical disability needs in Point Cook.
This role involves supporting the child with personal care, PEG feeding, transfers, manual handling and other disability-related daily-care activities. The successful applicant must confidently follow detailed support plans and instructions from the family, allied-health professionals and clinical practitioners.
The family is looking for reliable workers interested in developing a safe, trusting and ongoing relationship with the child. We aim to establish a small, consistent team to provide continuity of care and backup coverage when required.
Key responsibilities
- Provide safe, respectful and child-centred 1:1 support
- Assist with PEG feeding according to the child’s clinical care plan
- Provide personal-care assistance while maintaining the child’s privacy and dignity
- Perform safe transfers and manual-handling tasks
- Use relevant mobility and support equipment correctly
- Follow individual support plans, risk-management procedures and clinical instructions
- Monitor and report changes in the child’s health, behaviour or wellbeing
- Maintain accurate progress notes and other required documentation
- Communicate professionally with the child’s parents, support team and allied-health professionals
- Follow child-safety, infection-control and emergency procedures
- Participate in participant-specific training and competency assessments when required
Essential requirements
- Previous experience supporting children with complex physical disabilities
- Demonstrated PEG-feeding experience or competency
- Experience providing personal care
- Safe manual-handling and transfer experience
- Current NDIS Worker Screening Check
- Current Working with Children Check
- Current First Aid and CPR certificates
- Current Australian driver’s licence and reliable transport
- Evidence of the right to work in Australia
- Strong communication and documentation skills
- Ability to follow detailed care plans and clinical instructions
- Reliable, patient, gentle and confident approach to complex care
- Willingness to undertake participant-specific training before working independently
Desirable experience
- Qualification in Disability Support, Individual Support, Nursing, Education Support or a related field
- Experience using hoists or other transfer equipment
- Experience supporting young children in their family home
- Experience working collaboratively with parents and allied-health professionals
- Additional training in medication assistance, epilepsy, enteral feeding or complex-care support
